A. Introduction

Thank you for using FixL2Cache from WDSoft.com! This document has all that you need to run FixL2Cache to its fullest, so read it thoroughly once you have installed the program.

B. Product Overview

1. Description

Athlon's off-die L2 cache is slow relative to the CPU core, and often hinders the CPU from reaching its full overclocking potential. Some users solved this problem by resoldering cache setting on the Athlon's PCB, but this wasn't suitable for most of the people. Fortunately, it has been discovered that modifying BIOS ROM can achieve the same effect. Now you can fix Athlon's L2 cache to a certain speed with FixL2Cache!

This program is based on H.Oda(http://www.h-oda.com)’s findings on Athlon mainboard BIOS modification.

l A computer that can run Windows 9x/NT/2000

l 0.1 MB of Hard Disk space for MultiWin itself (3MB Total)

C. Installing and Uninstalling

1. Installing FixL2Cache

Unzip the files into a folder. Double-click on FixCache.exe to run the program. If the program does not start, download VB6 Runtime files from WDSoft.com website and unzip the contents into SYSTEM folder of Windows.

2. Uninstalling FixL2Cache

Delete the folder where FixL2Cache is installed.

D. Using FixL2Cache

1. Functions of the Controls

i) Input BIOS ROM File: Enter the location of the BIOS ROM image file that needs to be fixed. Press ‘Browse’ button to search for the file.

ii) Output BIOS ROM File: Enter the location where the fixed BIOS ROM image file will be saved.

iii) Cache Setting: Select the cache speed that the BIOS will be fixed to.

iv) Verify File: Verifies the BIOS ROM file for validity. If the file is valid for fixing, this button will become ‘Apply Fix’ button. Press this to fix the BIOS ROM image file accordingly.

v) Exit Program: Press this button to close FixL2Cache.

E. Troubleshooting Information

1. There is no other cache setting except ‘Default Speed’

FixL2Cache recognizes the BIOS ROM file, but does not have enough data to fix it. Future version of the program may support the file fully.

2. ‘BIOS ROM Not Recognised!’ error

FixL2Cache does not support the BIOS ROM file you have selected for fixing. Future version of the program may support it.

3. ‘Invalid Output BIOS ROM Path!’ error

You have entered a path that does not exist. Enter correct path for the file.
