Eh, what the heck. I'll go ahead and post it now. You might need to run the INSTALL.EXE program to configure your sound settings if the defaults don't match what's in the file. (Or, adjust the file to match the defaults.)

Ok, solved it. Here's the fix. The z.cfg file did not have the correct pathnames saved in it. I had manually changed them to be the same as the Daggerfall directory (C:\DAGGER), when they apparently need to be the \ARENA2 subdirectory in that directory (C:\DAGGER\ARENA2).
