Why neither ATI nor nVidia use Fragment AA?

Well, I'm talking about the 16x Fragment Anti-Aliasing originally used by Matrox Parhelia. The AA method only takes "fragment pixels" (pixels on the edge of an object) and then collects 16 sub-pixel samples for AA purpose. Theoritically, this method means way bigger sample size with less fill rate …

Re: Windows partition kind?

hajime wrote: I am planning to make a Windows 98 and a DOS partition (2 of them), and I know that for the DOS one, the type is FAT32... But what kind of partition is that of Windows? If you're already using FAT32 for DOS, there's no point of using FAT16 for Windows, so use FAT32 for that one too.

System Shock Portable?

Uh, I don't know if you guys have heard about this, but it seems I just found a portable version of System Shock here. The page is temporarily closed due to high traffic, so I couldn't find FAQ or anything, but the it still provides a download link for the game. Could it be dream come true?

Re: RAM in DOS

The amount of memory detected depend on the version of himem.sys you use. Some detect only 64MB, other can detect up to 4GB (max in 32 bit addressing) Makes me wonder: will the amount of detected memory cause incompatibility problems? (ie: certain DOS games won't run, etc) See, such thing actually …

Re: The Windows 9x PC

MB - The P3B-F offers one major advantage over the P2B models, a jumperless motherboard. It can probably support later PIIIs better than the older boards as well. This is vital for underclocking the CPU. Older boards have 2 ISA slots, newer boards only 1 ISA slot. I wonder: is there any PIII mobo …

Re: How (in)compatible MS-DOS 7 is?

Whoa, you mean turning off the CPU caches? Should I go to BIOS, or are there utilities (small .EXE, etc) for that purpose? There are several tools to switch off the L1 cache, however, I'm not so sure about L2. Better use the BIOS settings instead (if that's still possible on a P4 motherboard) :wink …

Re: Voodoo 5 single processor option

I just had a look on my Voodoo 5 machine, which uses Amigamerlin drivers in Windows 2000. There are anti-aliasing seetings under OpenGL and DirectX, which allow a choice between 2x, 4x, disabled, fastest performance etc., and also have an option for single processor [no AA]. So at least in Windows …

Re: The Games of Lost Hope

Greetings, Is the a listing anywhere for the DOS or Windows games that either "just aren't going to run no matter what" or had 3Dfx support built into them and therefore won't work with Glidos or Glide wrappers? I'm referring to games that didn't get Direct3d support, so the only way to get …
