Re: VGA Capture Thread

Gave it a shot on my laptop with RegataOS 24 (OpenSuSE Tumbleweed) running Kernel 6.8.2, and the Magewell driver did fail, but most likely another change since 6.5 is my guess. The most recent driver is from just over a year ago (3/10/2023), but the changelog mentions Kernel 6.1 and 6.2 in it. I'll …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

How odd, though I don't have any Magewell PCIe cards, the drivers have compiled fine all the way up to the most recent 6.5 kernels a lot of distros ship with. Vastly different story to my Datapath card, which I literally have to use OpenSuSE Leap 15 with Kernel 5.14.3 to even compile the driver on. …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

Does anyone have any experience with Magewell USB capture cards like the USB Capture HDMI? Right now it's more feasable for my setup than the PCIe card and cheaper to find used. I have an OSSC Pro so VGA -> HDMI isn't an issue but some of my machines refuse to be recognized by my current Avermedia …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

The question is, is it better to have an incredibly flexible but also expensive as all hell capture card or an incredibly flexible scaler (extron) with a good modern capture card that costs way less together than the datapath alone? What modern, cost effective card would you recommend? :) …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

So, discovering the Datapath card may not be as ideal as some think for DOS capture. Tried using JROK's "Ms. PacPC" in fullscreen mode, and a total of 20% of the image for top and bottom are completely cut off. Looks fine on the Datapath via OSSC. Though (as with amy 4:3 source), my EVGA XR1 Pro …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

The Retrotink 4k received a pricetag now. Will be 750$. I will still wait till Reviews for DOS are in and it's available in Europe. Probably dragonbox.de will offer it in germany. Hopefully that will be cheaper than shipping and importing it individually. That pricetag is kind of crazy.. Yeah, but …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

Though it outputs in 16:9 in OBS for some reason, I can say the EVGA XR1 Pro is fantastic with DOS machines via the OSSC. Plus, if you have a VGA monitor, get a quality active-powered HDMI to VGA converter for the passthrough of the XR1. This has eliminated any and all need for my Datapath card.

Re: VGA Capture Thread

5-6 frames of lag sounds a bit high, that's 100 ms or so? I'd make sure the Datapath app has no frame buffering going on. It also does scaling and color conversion in hardware, but I'd imagine that'd be faster than 100 ms. Yeah, just a smidge over 83ms. I'll test on my machine sometime once the PSU …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

I don't think it's HDCP, as why would a VGA to HDMI scaler add it? I think it's more that Blackmagic devices require an EXACT 5oHz PAL o4 59.97Hz NTSC signal. Any deviation and it's jusr "nope!". It's why for anything outside of those two strict numbers, the folks on System11's SHMUPS forums never …
