i'd personally recommend the original retail Descent II since it doesn't have chopped up cd tracks (later editions reduce their times so interplay can fit some starfleet academy trailer swag on the disc)

I own and have played Bard's Tale on a real DOS machine in 1990 and I can confirm there is no sound whatsoever other than the music in the tavern. Some console versions add in-game music to alleviate the emptiness of the original computer game, famous example being Maniac Mansion for the NES.

Because it has 3 PCI slots and 4 72pin SIMM slots, and I have two of them already, though the unused, older, green one has questionable mold and rust around the stuff around the CPU socket. And none of this was ebay'd. This costed $80 in 1996 😀

Quake performances, my own test timerefresh AM5x86-133 @ 120MHz - 8fps AM5x86-133 @ 160MHz - 11fps Pentium 100MHz - 21fps Pentium 166MHz - 24fps Pentium II 233MHz - 57fps You decide which is in the middle 😀

K5's have sucky floating point though. My 'in the middle' would be the Pentium 100-166MHz range. (200MHz seems significantly speedier) Also comfortably in the middle is the K6 233, which is nowhere near P2 233 performance in my experience.
