Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

Second, I retried MiniMax’s method by opening DOSBox and typing Z:\>config -writeconf "/Users/xx/Library/Preferences/DOSBox Preferences" (including the space) It worked! A preferences folder was created in the expected place. I opened it. Inside was this: [sdl] # fullscreen -- Start dosbox directly …

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

did you add the mount command to the preferences file ? No, I didn’t. It wasn’t in the readme or in Rhoenie’s instructions. I assumed that his way, it would be automatic. Pisomojado - didn't it strike you a bit odd with the double Z:\> stuff? I am not blaming you for trying to follow the guide to …

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

I've got a lot of catching up to do! First, Rhoenie, I tried out your new drop system. I love the idea. The Dosbox app went to the applications folder, but no success for the preferences. I'm running 10.3.9 on a G5. I ended up with something that looked like this (see attachment)[/img]

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

I also just tried using the method of placing the included DOSBox Preferences file in the proper place. The good news is that, using the technique of fooling the computer into thinking a folder was a cd drive, I successfully installed and played the free pacman game! So thanks for that! I really …

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

Ehh - "comes packaged with". Now we are entering uncharted territory. It might come packaged with the version of DOSBox that rhoenie is distributing. But there is no guarantee that the next guy that creates a Mac OSX version of DOSBox will put a Preferences file in his package. On the official …

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

(Has DrFred's problem been resolved? http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=14774 Is it a bug?) I don't know. One would guess so, and that he is simply too lazy to report back on his success. But it would be nice to get it confirmed. By the way, the last two posts are by DrFred, in which he …

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

With a real CD you do the mount D "/Volume/name-of-CD" -t cdrom -ioctl thing. With a Zip-file, you need to first unzip the file(s) into a folder and then do a mount D "/path/to/the/unzipped/folder" -t cdrom. After that it is the same: Go to D:, and type INSTALL. AH-HAH! So one can treat any folder …

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

If you have more than 60 seconds to spare, you can create a DOSBox preferences (configuration) file with instruction for DOSBox to automagically mount the emulated C and D drives every time you start DOSBox: 1. Launch DOSBox. 2. Create the preferences file: Z:>Z:\>config -writeconf "/Users/your- …

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

Thanks again for the reply Rhoenie. Of course it doesn't matter where you put your stuff. I don't know what a "trailing path delimitor" is, but I think I get your drift. I asked you a bad question, tantamount to asking how my computer works. For simplicity's sake, I feel safest using the guide as my …

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

Minimax, I think that is a great idea. But I suggest what would be even better would be to update this MacOSX Pictorial guide and include it on the Guides forum. If only I were competent, I'd do it myself. The pictures help GREATLY with comprehension of unfamiliar terms. As far as I can tell in my …

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

I now regret writing the second e-mail, dated 2007-3-22 @ 09:21 am. Its purpose was to help you view the guide through the eyes of someone seeing it for the first time without understanding technical jargon, enabling you to improve its user friendliness. For me, this MacOSX Pictorial guide is much, …

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

They are most constructive if YOU write a new guide instead of writing a lot of "OMFG" and "Uhooooo" and whining around. I promise you that if I ever understand your program, I'll write you a jim-dandy user guide.

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

Thank you very much for your reply. Copy it into the Preferences/ folder of your harddisk. What does the slash after "Preferences/" signify? I located two Preferences folders. One can be found by navigating to my hard drive, then a "library". Another can be found by navigating to my user home folder …

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

To give you an idea of the level of my panicked ignorance, here was my initial reaction when first trying to read the "60 Seconds Guide" : 1. Create a directory for your game, e.g. "C:\DOSBox stuff\MyGame". OMGWTF!?!? WHAT'S A "DIRECTORY"!? (if you are on an Mac with MacOS X, use "/Users/your-login- …

Re: MacOS X Pictorial Guide

Dear Sirs, I am a big fat n00b. I’m a mac user with a G5 running osx 10.3.9 . I just dl’d the new DOSBox 0.70, excited to play some of the old obsolete games gathering dust on my harddrive. So far, I’ve been unsuccessful. Let me preface this with saying that I’m writing this in the spirit of someone …
