Thank you for DOSBox 0.72!

I've just downloaded version 0.72 because I couldn't get something to run fast enough under my then current version, 0.70. The difference in performance is absolutely amazing. I haven't yet been able to find something it can't handle. Fantastic job! 😁

DOSBox being sold online

I apologise beforehand if this is the wrong place/covered already; I did a search and found nothing, but: I thought I should mention that I've just discovered DOSBox being sold by online vendor Starvector.com, as some kind of special deal that pops up during the checkout process. My understanding is …

Re: Strike Commander

That doesn't really help at all - why does it think it's pirated and how can I tell it otherwise? It's installed from floppy disks, so it should be expecting files to be on the hard disk. [edit]Come to think of it, the version I'm trying to run might not be my floppy disk version. One of the disks …

Re: Error While Trying to Run Stonekeep

When you ran setup originally, did you do it from DOSBox? If you didn't, try running DOSBox with everything set how it's going to be when you try to run the game (ie, all the necessary drives mounted). Some games seem to not work properly if their setup programs are run in a different environment to …

Re: Strike Commander

Heh. I've just remembered that I'm still using DOSBox 0.62. I've just downloaded 0.63, and I'll see how it goes... [edit]...damnit! No change.[/edit] [edit again]Ok, a bit more detail about what configs I've tried. priority=highest, low memsize=64 #at present; tried with 256 as well - didn't help …

Re: Strike Commander

...anyone? :/ I've confirmed that there's another error that pops up; seems to occur after I lose my fuel if I keep flying for longer: my wingman and any other friendly pilots suddenly decide that I've turned traitor, and they attack me. At a wild guess, possibly some memory's getting doodled on …

Strike Commander

I've managed to get Strike Commander to run under DOSBox (on lowest detail settings :)). However in the middle of a mission, for no reason at all, my fuel will suddenly drop from 2300+ to 75. I'm not sure, but I think it may jump to 75 after it drops below a certain level. It happens every single …

Re: Help for Privateer on XP

Step 1: Run DOSBox. Step 2: Run Privateer from DOSBox. Did you honestly expect meaningful help without providing any meaningful description of the problem you're having (ie, error messages)? But because I'm feeling generous: try set ems=false in your dosbox.conf.

Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon

in DOS
I realise this is utterly, totally the wrong place to ask this, but I can't think of anywhere else to post this, or find the answer anywhere on the 'net. So, here goes: How the hell do you lay double track? I had the game originally, so I've got the manual. Unfortunately, I don't have the technical …

Re: Joystick sensitivity\Wing Commander I

in DOS
Hi... sorry to revive this again after so late. Uh... I don't suppose anyone's thought of anything? For that matter, has anyone ever been able to get WC1 to work on a modern PC, under any circumstances?

Re: Digital sound output from DOS

in DOS
If i have understood correctly the short answer is NO. You only need working windows drivers regardless what physical sound card is present. The "emulation" software fools your apps/games into believing they have a SB card available or Midi or whatever. EDIT: I am talking about running ms-dos games …

Re: Digital sound output from DOS

in DOS
I'd also like to know how to get sound working under DOS. I've got some kind of SB16 emulation drivers, but they can't find the card. This might be a silly question, but: do you actually need a Sound Blaster card of some description for the SB16 emulator drivers to do anything?

Re: Re: Wing Commander 2

in DOS
Wing Commander 2 runs fine for me under VDMSound. You might want to try that. (sorry, I don't have a URL handy but a search and\or a Google should produce it easily enough).

Re: Joystick sensitivity\Wing Commander I

in DOS
The joystick is some generic, crappy Microsoft two-button joystick, my OS is XP home edition, and I can configure the joystick from the control panel. By the way, I tried recalibrating it by moving the stick in small circles (as opposed to the whole range) but this didn't work (I think it would have …
