Warhammer: Dark Omen - Flickering.

in Windows
All of the 3D models - unit portraits and map (The units in the game are sprites) - flickers during play which is very annoying. Obviously a graphical glitch. I've read on a few forums of people having the same problem, with very few solutions but none worked. The problem is that whenever I modify …

Re: Larry 6 error

in Windows
Try slowing down the game - either in the options, or using DosBox or another speed program. most problems I've run into with Sierra games are due to the character moving too fast and the game not running in time. Or it could be a bad version of the game.

Re: Blood problems

in DOS
You modify blood.ini ... Let's see. Halfway down the first page I have: [Episode1] ; location of movies was set at install ;CutSceneA=c:\games\blood\cs1.smk ;CutWavA=c:\games\blood\cs1822m.wav ;CutSceneB=c:\games\blood\cs2.smk ;CutWavB=c:\games\blood\cs2822m.wav The c:\games\blood\ is where I have …

Re: Blood problems

in DOS
I got Blood working myself after spending most of yesterday trying the tips here at VOGONs and the links... To help anyone else struggling, here's what I did: -I got the Blood: One Whole Unit set from Home of the Underdogs (I had the one from the C:Dos site before - I reckon it made a difference). - …

Old Game Emulation Tutorial

in DOS
I recently finished a tutorial designed to help people find and play old games. I'm not a hugely technical person - just someone with the will to write up what I've found (and a site, and a PC too). So feel free to comment on if this helped you, or if you found any problems at all - they would be …

Re: Simple question.

So why does it need to mount a drive at all? Why can't that be done automatically and it works off it as it is? *Scratches head* I think I understand, so you won't have to resort to the crowbar-and-head method that people use for me. 😜

Re: Tomb Raider 2 FMV problem on XP

in Windows
This may sound stupid... but it *is* a proper version of the game, yes? Some 'rips' remove the movies (Or make them one second blank ones) to save on file their file size.

Re: A LOT of WindowsXP fixes...

in Windows
Someone needs to do a collection of all these, with a proper directory and everything. Hell, I may do one someday if no one else is willing. Mind if I archive your post for now, Ice? Naturally, you'll get credit if I ever do an 'Old Game Fixes' page on my site.

Re: I can't use the keyboard

Yes, I had that on Police Quest 3 the other day, but Police Quest 1 worked fine before that. When I went to save a game, I couldn't type to rename a save. I checked out in windows and it worked fine. I think I eventually got it working, but I forget how. 😖

Simple question.

I'm writing a tutorial for how to run old games and the main app I cover is DosBox (As well as VDMS and ScummRV, if you're interested). I'm explaining that we mount a drive to play games... "DosBox mounts a hard drive - the one where you keep your games and then loads it for the duration of the …

Re: Police Quest 1 (VGA version) problem.

in DOS
Nevermind. Thanks to Joan o Arc's thread about common solutions at HOTU (Link), she mentioned that its a timer problem in the game. I tried the scene in DosBox (Which plays the midi music much better, I found) and it played perfectly. Sorted.

Police Quest 1 (VGA version) problem.

in DOS
Hey all. It's been a while since I was here, and I come to beseech thy aid once - ("Get on with it!") I found PQ1, the VGA version, the other day (*Cough*). To cut it short, I'm at the park scene and came across a freeze of sorts where nothing happens. A walkthrough (hey, the game's tough) reminded …

Re: Ultima 7.

in DOS
I wish I could kiss people over the internet. (Seriously: thank you very much! That one link helps me a great deal!)

Ultima 7.

in DOS
I've recently found an old copy of Ultima 7 and tried to get it working. After much enduring, I got a patch and a U7WIN9X (A set of files that allow U7 to be run in Windows)... and was able to get it working by running the U7DPMI file with VDMS (DosBox didn't work, unfortunately). Only this one …

Shadow of the Comet CD.

in Windows
Hi. I spent £2.50 on a boxed copy of this and have been trying to get it to work with mixed success. I installed it but it didn't work so I tried DosBox, still didn't work. Never was able to see the error message either. So I copied over the CD files to the directory and set it Auto for all of the …

Re: Bloodnet.

I was experimenting with VDMSound but wasn't sure how to use it. The readme says to right click an exe and tick 'run with VDMSound', but I couldn't see it after installing, or when I ran the VDM exe. (And left it running whilst trying the bloodnet exe) So I was looking in the exe properties for …
