Re: Final Fantasy VII AWE Ripping

in Marvin \ Sound
I used Final Fantasy VII with a Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold, so three things I remember: - Although FF7 had a built-in soundfont utility, it didn't work with AWE64. You had to load the soundfont using the card utility before running FF7. - Some tracks had "sound effects" embedded. Besides that vocals/ …

Re: Creating a BIN/CUE thingy from Linux?

in Windows
So I used cdrdao to rip the game (fortunately, it only took 8 hours). Still I haven't found a way to pause (and power off the computer) without having to restart. Now I have got two CUE+BIN (F22TAW and TFX) images that have audio data, but I was wondering about CUE+BIN+WAV. - What tools can split my …

Re: Help me understand memory chip size.

256K --> Number of words in each chip 32 --> Size of word in bits (data bus width) 2 --> Number of banks? So the banks have 256K addresses of 32 bits each (4 bytes) and sums 1Mb of RAM per bank. I don't know what does it means the bank thing... maybe they have 2Mb available per chip at every time, …

Re: olivetti pcs 86

AFAIK, it's not a 8088 but an V30. That means: - 16 bits data bus. - Faster CPU (it can do 10Mhz instead of 8, and some instructions take less clocks in an V30 than in a 8086). - It has some instructions borrowed from 80186/80286 (I remember they were needed to run some VGA drivers on Windows 3.0). …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Gunman Chronicles. It seems that it was better in my memories than on a modern PC. It has some interesting ideas (i.e.: weapons where you can choose some parameters) and it has some variety... but levels are very linear and it has some plot issues. There is a funny thing about it... it has never …

Re: Creating a BIN/CUE thingy from Linux?

The key is being able to do resumeable dumping. I don't mind using Windows or Linux tools, but some discs can take days to dump (and I don't like to leave my computers working overnight). I guess that ANY tool that can ignore errors and stop/resume the dump would work fine (but AFAIK, ddrescue is …

Creating a BIN/CUE thingy from Linux?

in Windows
I'm trying to dump some games from Dinamic Multimedia / FX Interactive using Linux. The "protection" used in those games is a "ring". They ring is composed by many, many unused/unrecorded/damaged sectors that makes a visible "ring" on the disk. Usually, the protection don't check those sectors, they …

Re: Emulation on Windows NT 4.0

BGB, a GameBoy and GameBoy Color emulator requires DirectX 7, which won't work under Windows NT 4.0 and in Windows 95, it might include dependencies that don't exist on the OS. BGB 1.5.9 requires Windows 98 or later. Windows NT 4.0 can only support up to DirectX 3 (DirectX 6.1 unofficially). I …

Re: B350 and Ryzen 5500 failed upgrade... any ideas?

in Milliways
OK, so I've returned that 5500 and got a Ryzen 5 3600 instead. It runs fine, so this will be (probably) the last update for that computer. The next step (in another 4 o 5 years) would be buying a new computer... if PC parts prices drop to a reasonable level.

Re: B350 and Ryzen 5500 failed upgrade... any ideas?

So, going back to gigabyte CPU support list... - T52d states that it adds support for Vermeer / Renoir CPUs. - F52g states that it adds support for Vermeer (again!) / Cezanne CPUs. - All Cezanne CPUs are marked as working since F52 BIOS (no suffix). - Vermeer and Renoir CPUs are marked proper BIOS …

Re: B350 and Ryzen 5500 failed upgrade... any ideas?

in Milliways
I've tried every 52 BIOS. It seems that my board is not compatible with that CPU. The results: - T52d: It goes CPU > DRAM and gets stuck. - F52e: It only lights the CPU led. - F52g: It goes CPU > DRAM > Boot > CPU > DRAM... and gets stuck. So, in the end, it seems that CPU supported list for my …

Re: B350 and Ryzen 5500 failed upgrade... any ideas?

I'm getting very confused because of AMD... Possibly a continuing issue with the 5000 series beyond T52d - despite the final edit para, maybe try the rollback to T52d anyway I've also seen some comments about that, but I thought that it was not my case (see below). Gigabyte says that a F52 BIOS is …

B350 and Ryzen 5500 failed upgrade... any ideas?

in Milliways
(I'm trying to get an answer from gigabyte, but I'd like to know if anyone has had this issue and how to solve it) Some years ago I replaced my main computer and the specs were: - CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200. - Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3. - RAM: 16Gb DDR4 @ 2666 MHz. - GPU: Nvidia 1050Ti. Not …
