Re: Installation of a an Aureal Vortex2 card under Win XP

in PC Emulation
:exclamation: Wow.. that GS 4mb WT daughter board looks much like the one came with MX200(dream chip and ROM), and that I/O module looks so nice in color, and that CD-ROM looks interesting, mm..'Home Studio', there must be a lot of cool software in it, heh?, all these came in the box? Yeah, right, …

Re: Broken Sword sprite stutter

Strange.. normally there should be a great difference in speed between numeric value and 'max'. This goes to conclusion that your problem is not the CPU working cycles. I noticed that your video card is Geforce. Your problem seems to converge mine (as you can see, I use 9800GT). So, check out my …

in PC Emulation
Yep. I know, but Silent Loon seems doesn't care (or does?) about DOS; in fact, only for DOS, ESS Solo-1 (I have one) is better because it doesn't need any TSR to initialize DOS SB-Pro compatibility so you don't need to allocate your valuable 35kb DOS mem for it, its FM synthesizer is real (not just …

Re: Installation of a an Aureal Vortex2 card under Win XP

in PC Emulation
That XP's "build-in" driver you mentioned only partially supports A3D 2.0 (may be only 1.0 part which was used by Vortex 1 fully works). That's why some newer games can't get A3D support. The A3D API is now almost obsolete, and its hardware manufacturers canceled their supports for years before the …

Try this:- download unlocker here:- http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ install it (reboot may be needed); whenever you need to delete a locked file, just right click on it, select unlocker, when prompted for action, in the drop-down list, select 'delete' and press 'Unlock All'.

Re: GUS and DosBox questions

in DOSBox General
There's an easy way to check if a DOS game supports GUS; run its setup program, look for something like "choose sound FX card", activate it and look for "Gravis Ultrasound" in the list (GUS Max might not be supported by DOSBox)-- - If there is no such an item, the game might not support GUS (except …

Re: GUS and DosBox questions

in DOSBox General
Be sure you added gus=true and ultradir= your GUS path (normally C:\ULTRASND) to GUS section of your dosbox.conf file and gusbase, irq1, irq2, dma1, dma2 are all not conflict with corresponding values in sblaster section (or better turn sound blaster off with sbtype=none); all these things get much …

Re: DOSBox running slow with GF9

It also happens to GF2 and it has done this for years Yeah, I once used Geforce 5700 and experienced this slowdown as well, but that time I thought it's because my system speed; But in real DOS it seems fast enough, I don't know what's going on with newer geforce VESA BIOS or what version is it, …

Re: DOSBox running slow with GF9

OK. wd, I didn't upgrade the driver yet, but you remind me of it's relation to the problem. I tried turning off every eyecandies in nVidia's 3D settings and then output=opengl in DOSBox (ddraw doesn't help much, it's 2D mode); the performance of DOSBox improves (about 30%, I think). This is not yet …

Re: DOSBox running slow with GF9

DOSBox version: 0.72 For anyone read this topic:- If you use DOSBox and are about to buy SB Live!, Audigy or X-fi then don't hesitate; these sound cards support Soundfont, with it you have a really beautiful music in DOS game that supports General MIDI both in DOSBox and VDMSound. I myself …

Re: DOSBox running slow with GF9

Yes, I already tried ddraw, opengl, openglnb, surface, overlay and I also changed machine= to many settings, but sadly nothing seems to get better. However I noticed that this slowdown is not specific to DOSBox, I tested WinQuake and many other non 3D-accellerated games, It happens the same --slow …

DOSBox running slow with GF9

I've just upgraded from ATI X1950 Pro to Geforce 9800GT; the only reason of upgrade is that I sometime want to play DOS Game in real DOS (not DOSBox--many games such as Redneck Rampage runs too low on framerate within DOSBox, so I still have a DOS partition on my system), some games shows bad …
