Re: Name that game!

leileilol wrote on 2020-09-02, 23:09: The Reap? Yes! Thank you very much. No wonder I couldn't find it, it was much newer than I thought. (If there really aren't more threads like these here, feel free to use this one... I mean, I thought at least that there would be a 'quiz' thread on here …

Name that game!

in Milliways
Did I miss a few dozen already existing threads for this? (If so, I'm sorry. Please link them and I'll post there instead!) If not, I'm having a difficult time remembering a game with the following details: * It's a CD-ROM game, but I can't remember if it's DOS or (gasp) Windows 95. * It's an …

Re: DOSBox Icon

Well, it's been over 10 years since my last login, and holy smokes, almost 15 years since I last posted in this thread (and look, the amount of hair in my old avatar came true)! I needed to convert my files (again) to a new software suite I'm using, so since I "lost" to ChaosFish and his layout, I …

Re: Screamer 2

Version 0.70 now runs Screamer 2 amazingly fast! I even get about 25-30 fps in high resolution mode (using dos32a). Really impressive. The setup still gives a black screen, though, but I wonder if that is due to IPX or CD or something like that...

Re: Universal Binary for OS X?

There is no such thing as a Universal binary of SDLMAME. You compile it customized and optimized for your own processor on your own machine. Note that the first release did not enable compiler optimizations, and between that and OpenGL mode the current builds are between 5 and 20 times faster on G5 …

Re: Universal Binary for OS X?

Aww, no love for the OS X version, it seems. :( Well, not from me either, I must confess... I still don't want to install Windows via boot camp to run speed tests (going to wait until Vista). However, I have recently downloaded a universal binary of something called SDLMame (some sort of Mame port …

Re: 0.65 messing up my icons.

It can't be a windows feature .. It IS a Windows feature and there are other application which do this. I believe it is appliations which actually resize the desktop in order to cover it with their window, instead of applications which create hardware surfaces separate from the desktop, but I'm …

Re: Universal Binary for OS X?

I personally think that the all-in-all speed issue is more important than the dynamic core, though. As you can see in my posts above, I suspect that there somehow is a huge speed difference, regardless of core, between the OS X and XP versions (with XP being a whole lot faster). I haven't installed …

Re: Screamer 2

Ok, so this topic is very old, but no resolution seems to have been found, and the game still refuses to run with the "no PCI bus detected" error even in the new DosBox 0.65. Also, if you try to run the game using Dos32A 9.1.1 you get the following additional errors: Dos/32A warning (9003): real …

Re: Universal Binary for OS X?

I seem to remember something about Apple optimizing OSX for a small memory foot print over performance optimizations. Then again, maybe the x86 version of Darwin isn't as well optimized for the hardware as it is for PPC. Hmm? Everywhere I've read about OS X performance since I got my Macbook, …

Re: Universal Binary for OS X?

Is there a Macbook Pro user out there with boot camp who can do speed comparison tests between XP and OS X? The latest stable Windows DOSBox on my 1.83 Macbook w/ 1.5 gb ram is WAY faster than either the lamers or punk build. I played a few games: Red Baron, Shuttle, Might & Magic Xeen, and they …

Re: Universal Binary for OS X?

Thank you for confirming that the "punk" version is busted. I guess all we can do now is to wait until what was deemed wrong with lamer0's patches has been sorted out, because whatever he did, it apparently works, and whatever the "punk" people did, they failed. Is there a Macbook Pro user out there …
