The 3dfx patch looks pretty sweet with the Hires menus but unfortunately it crashes in-game. Just got done testing Descent 1 v1.5 in DosBox. 640x480 Have to up the cycles to 103,000 but it seems playable. Probably not fast enough for hardcore playing with tons of ships and you may need to turn down …

Odd, what kind of computer do you have? Mech 2 runs fine at 320 and 640 on my XP 2800.

My XP 2800 is 167.05X13.5=2215.12. Have had it since Sept 2002. Very good investment. Always thought about buying a newer processor but there's really not much point. The XP 2800 is still very powerful and enough to run even the latest games, unless of course your an FPS nut who requires the highest …

To sum it up. When you want to use DOS applications, in Windows or in DosBox you should always use 8 character directory names. LFN's are for wimps. 😀

1024 isn't supported by DosBox. Highest you can go is 800x600, but it's kinda flaky and slow in DosBox. I'd recommend sticking with 640x480.

IIRC, it only needs EMS for the sound effects. Otherwise it runs fine without it. I tested it over here on 2K and it works without EMS. It's possible that the lockup with PD under NTVDM was caused by giveio or a similar I/O program.

Well you should definetly try the latest ATI drivers. Latest are CAT v5.1 which according to the info you posted you don't have installed. Doubt they'll fix your prob tho.
