Re: Pixel Perfect 1280 x 1000 resolution?

TomVDJ wrote on 2021-01-14, 18:06: Last commit was on July 9, 2019. No idea if he is still working on it, but I'll give it a try... Thank you for contributing to the community. If one man solves it, everybody else can use his solution. I myself will look into it after I finish my current work on a …

Re: Pixel Perfect 1280 x 1000 resolution?

In the meanwhile I also tried the dosbox version from here: https://github.com/bladeSk/DOSBox-pixel-perfect and I was able to get what I wanted (see other attachment "Pixel Perfect Patch") but only this does not work with "vgaonly". Only works with svga_s3, which results in some colors being off, …

Re: Pixel Perfect 1280 x 1000 resolution?

How did you activate the log window? Well, I don't think I shall be able to fix this old and unsupported patch in an old and unsupported version of DOSBox ECE, but I may try to do so in some active fork. I will also try to find a way to turn off doublescan.

Re: Pixel Perfect 1280 x 1000 resolution?

Yep, the version before that works fine (R4296). For space quest it does exactly what I want. For Lemmings however it gives me this result: A screen of 960 x 800 with 4x3 pixels. While the aspect ratio is perfect, The ratio is 3:4 (width:height), and it is far from perfect, because it yields an …

Re: Pixel Perfect 1280 x 1000 resolution?

To be clear: I used the Dosbox ECE version r4301 I found here: https://dosboxece.yesterplay.net/ in the archive folder, since I read here on Vogons it was the last version supporting Pixel Perfect. Maybe that statement was not correct? (Found it here: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=32&t= …

Re: Pixel Perfect 1280 x 1000 resolution?

BardBun, the problem is not the centering of the image, but the scaling algorithm. I don't think you can always achieve correct integer scaling in full-screen by changing fullresolution. LCD displays must always work at their native resolution for a sharp image.

Re: Pixel Perfect 1280 x 1000 resolution?

Ah, damn, yeah, I tried with different output values there, none of them seemed to work. Also not openglpp. Could you just let me know what settings SHOULD work for the [sdl] and [render] section of the config file? Not until tomorrow evening. In the mean time, post screnshots of DOSBox ECE and its …

Re: Pixel Perfect 1280 x 1000 resolution?

Oh man, I don't seem to manage. I think I missed some parameter in my config. I now got a small screen with artefacts around it. In attachment my lemmings.conf file (I start it with a bat file that calls dosbox ece with this config file). I've put machine=vgaonly (instead of svga_s3) since this …

Re: Pixel Perfect 1280 x 1000 resolution?

I rediscovered "Lemmings" and would like to play it pixel perfect with DosBox. The original resolution of Lemmings is 320 x 200. With aspect correction to 640 x 480 it means that 20% is added to the height. What I'd like to get, is pixels of 4 x 5. Ideal aspect correction would be not 4x5 but 5x6 ( …

Re: VIDEO Patch for pixel-perfect scaling (SDL1)

Just a note, I've ported the Pixellate shader to DOSBox SVN, it can be found here: https://github.com/tyrells/dosbox-svn-shaders . Some screenshots of the shader in action can be seen in the following forum post: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=835314 . I see no screenshots in that post. Did …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

Honestly, ECEs future doesn't look to bright atm... Maybe it's time to quit and leave the stage to more capable people, who know better what they're doing (I'm looking at DOSBox-X or dosbox-staging). I concur with the recommendation about dosbox-staging , which already contains opus and the pixel- …

Re: VIDEO Patch for pixel-perfect scaling (SDL1)

Interesting post about Pixellate shader (i know its not possible in Dosbox right now, maybe only in Retroarch core?), what do you think about it? https://www.resetera.com/threads/how-do-you-like-to-display-your-retro-pixel-art-games-filtered-or-unfiltered.90135/#post-16387673 Looks good to me, if a …

Re: VIDEO Patch for pixel-perfect scaling (SDL1)

I've tested various combinations of outputs & scalers, each with aspect corretion on & off. That is a lot of tests. I don't have time to study and comment on them all. For each test I've captured a screenshot of my whole screen, in order to let you evaluate also the content of dosbox's console …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

The tearing issue only occurs when machine is set to vesa_nolfb . If I use vesa_nolfb it tears even when I use the internal DOSBox video recording. It doesn't matter if V-Sync is enabled or not. Does it tear only with the outputs introduced my patch, or with other outputs too? If I enable V-Sync ( …

Re: New forum suggestions/Feedback

in Milliways
I agree about the wasted vertical space. Possible solutions are: remove the greeting line and the two empty lines around it; place the greeting line and banner on the same line: I like this, except that the width of the display is unknowable, so it’s not possible to reliably position anything to …

Re: VIDEO Patch for pixel-perfect scaling (SDL1)

that's the way I usually setup dosbox, and I'm under the impression that it would lead to less accurate results because the aspect ratio correction is performed by adding lines instead of making the single pixel taller this image explain my understanding of the "aspect=true & scaler=normal5x" inner …
