Yea, no reason why NT 3.51 and NT 4.0 would not support it too AFAIK. Do you know if it uses the MPS HAL or something else?

Even if the VIA 694X chipset can take 1GB DIMMs, I doubt you would be able to use all of it even with PAE enabled. This is a P60/66 without a built-in local APIC. I wonder if this is an Intel Multiprocessor Specification compliant system with external APIC or something else (it is not in the NT4 HAL list).

Having the FPU on chip absolutely was not an issue for getting the 486 onto the 386 bus. The Rapidcad was essentially the i486 core with the 8kb cache removed. The whole problem here is that we've had UEFI for many years, and Windows 7 didn't support it. Windows 7 is horribly outdated. With Windows 8 we finally had proper UEFI support in the OS, so booting became a lot more modern and streamlined. I don't find it strange that the latest hardware doesn't …

I remember reading that DX4 was released around the same time as the P54C. And the FDIV fiasco was in December 1994 or so, after the P54C was released.

But the 440BX datasheet says the max is 64mbit chips but that's plainly wrong considering it will read the 16-chip 256MB DIMMs (128 mbit). Eventually Intel acknowledged this in the spec update to the 440BX.

You're probably going to end up stuck with a Via chipset no matter what... i815 boards with ISA slots were slim on the ground anyway, and Tualatin supporting ones are even rarer. Of course, because like all other i8xx chipsets it is based on the hub architecture which replaced the ISA with an LPC …

Actually the story was more complex than that. You see, the i815 northbridge was just an i810E northbridge hacked with a new memory controller upgraded to support PC133 SDRAM and an AGP interface.

Well, 2 ISA slots were pretty standard on 440BX boards. In contrast, I think only one ISA slot were standard on the later KT133 boards (one of the last chipsets that used ISA instead of LPC).

Do you have a specific, official source for this information? Because if we're just speculating wildly, then I propose that VXD support was just hacked out of ME, much like its real-mode MS-DOS. Which is false. In fact, VxD support is still there in WinMe.
