My CT2230 had the same issue... it was nobody's fault but mine... I hooked up something sketchy to the line-in and fried the amp... it got pretty hot because there's a noticable brown ring on the PCB... the card still works but the amp went from noisy to ridiculous 🤣

sounds like you need newer drivers and utils.... try the latest ones found off the "ultimate" ISO I posted on vogonsdrivers

🤣 nobody here mentioned how bad the K6 FPU is? That's why games are slow with it.... they only excel at integer processing that's why PIIs were much better but much more expensive

my super SB16 drivers ISO posted on vogons drivers includes SBIDE.SYS in both standalone format or with a installer... I don't remember if it will detect or allow selection of the tertiary/quaternary controllers that's typical of a sound card though... I hardly messed with the sound card IDE …

the CT3900 has an IDE port and is NOT a PnP card, therefore no CTCU involved.... jumpers must be properly set or the hardware doesn't initalize properly or conflicts will result you need to manually boot with the drivers first before you initiate Windows setup.... Windows will NOT automatically …

I use a Dell Latitude D series floppy drive... it slides into most of these laptops and it also has a USB port on the side.. since I have a bunch of these laptops, it's best of both worlds for me... works great!

if the capacitors can be bent out of the way a little from the heatsink, I would do that... otherwise, leave enough room for them to be bent out of the way during replacement
