Re: Bought this (Modern) hardware today

I'm still regret that I bought a 1070 3 months ago, should've waited for rtx 2060. eek. Supposedly there's also a GTX-1170/GTX-1180 coming very soon, that are supposedly real and we have AIB partner card information about em, so they're actually coming soon. New cards based on Turing, but with no …

Re: Best WinXP Video Card

I have not had the time to try too many games but yes, its mostly pre-directx9 issue I would think. From the top of my head: Mafia - flickering shadows under cars, ehm, automobiles GTA Vice City - crashes NFS Hot Pursuit 2 - crashes Its not the cards fault I think its usually more about drivers and …

Re: Best WinXP Video Card

We can't edit so wanted to add: In the above listed games I have -NOT- observed any issues what so ever with using kepler for them. No graphical glitches, nothing rendered wrong, no issues what so ever. It just works as it should.

Re: Best WinXP Video Card

That is quite a nice result, but the step up from weaker hardware isn't that great: Guess it's time to put that 780 under water. Or rather put the i5 higher, because that is clearly a CPU limitation (see my results with the 1060 and 660 Ti, the later got 2000 more just because of 200 MHz on the CPU …

Re: Best WinXP Video Card

I guess it's time to comment I did come up with the fastest XP video card. At first I figured it was the nvidia 700 series. Then I found out that EVGA hand-binned all of the GTX 780 classified cards to at least 80% or higher ASIC Quality and they all overclock to the moon with a tuned bios. And I …

https://i.imgur.com/nhDlUIA.jpg?1 Photo is from the seller. AsRock Extreme4 P67 board. My Asus Mini-ITX system's motherboard is dying and won't turn on anymore at all unless I turn off power, pick it up a few inches and physically drop the chassis on the desk. Got old doing that every morning for 5 …

Re: Bought this (Modern) hardware today

In any case I wanted a new motherboard but as the G1 Sniper 2 (except for the issue mentioned above) is a really kickass motherboard there are not many socket 1155 boards that can be considered upgrades. The list of boards were pretty much Asus Maximus V Formula (Z77) Asus Maximus V Extreme (Z77) …

*update* no to be defeated, I asked supermicro. Their response was "The board only officially supports chips up to 95W" I had a look at the power regulators, the X8DAL has 4 phases per cpu, the X8DAH has 5 with beefier parts. In a strange twist, I found myself installing the cpu's I had into the …

Well, the problem I'm having with what I bought, the board only accepts 95W cpus. The x5687 is a 135w so it won't even post. I'll probably keep the chips for my server, and grab a nice 95w cpu next time I can. Here, another report as well from when I had it running with more detailed information …

not retro, but not quite modern: https://www.ebay.com/itm/263737594118 specs: http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/QPI/5500/X8DAL-i.cfm I got it because it is a STEAL. The ram is just a waste of space, as you need to find 4 more of the same modules to enable the 3-channel ram. but getting …

I just picked up something today on ebay.. well it's special to me. I owned one years ago and I've regretted (years later) that I had at the time sold it originally to upgrade. I've been looking for one to own again for many years now and haven't found one for sale at a decent price. Most folks want …
