Re: FastDoom. A new Doom port for DOS, optimized to be as fast as possible for 386/486 personal computers!

everything is in perspective. And nostalgia. In the old days I would play Doom with a 386DX40 or a slow 486 and i had a blast (You know, all Doom versions 1.2 and lower also feel a little bit faster...). But now at least a later Pentium for my Dooming. And I remember that I played Half-Life with a …

Re: Bootable CD-ROM with brand new DOS HD image

There is an option for a HDD emulation, but the BIOS support is more spotty for that, so yes, make a bootable floppy image, with CD drivers and MSCDEX and you can access the rest of the CD/DVD-ROM. Bart's tools even have some utilities for finding a CD rom drive letter and then you just use %CD% in …

Re: Notoriously difficult-to-run DOS games?

Jazz Jackrabbit and Commander Keen seem to trip people up fairly frequently, but they worked well enough back in the day. Fun fact: due to a coding oversight, Jazz Jackrabbit can sometimes sound worse on Creative SB16/AWE cards than on clones. https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=714945#p714945 I …

Re: Notoriously difficult-to-run DOS games?

I have never had problems with Jazz Jackrabbit and Commander Keen. But well I only use Cirrus, S3 or Nvidia cards in my systems. Issues to these games are known with the following graphic cards: https://gona.mactar.hu/DOS_TESTS/ Exactamundo! I have one ET4000W32(DOS demoscene and Windows 1.x 2.x) …

Re: Notoriously difficult-to-run DOS games?

In my experience Cutemouse is a nice "cute" little program, but if you want best compatibility use Microsoft Mouse driver Version 8.20. It really works with everything. Jut try to load it in UMB if possible, because yes, it is a memory hog, a compatible memory hog. Oh... my two sents. Z aka. Zed …

Re: Most beautiful Dos-Games for a 486...what are your favorites?

in DOS
Nice game nobody know or talks about... Quimo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPIW_Vr_Xao Not as good as Jazz Jackrabbit ..... So exotic there is not any information in it even in google. I have played it alot, and it is a nice game. Pretty late for a commercial DOS platformer a 1996 game. With nice …

Re: mouse drivers

Most compatible is Microsoft Mouse driver Version 8.20. Older ones are not compatible with Windows 3.1x and newer. And that 9.01 version does not bring anything new to the table, only more memory hog.
