The other drive I use, and have in 2 retro machines, is this 52X Sony: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-CDU5211-52x-Inte … e-/110900791339 It looks good and is pretty quiet for a 52X, plus... it's a Sony.

The ISA OPLSAx cards have an INI option which is something like OPL3=off (on by default), which I assumed turns the OPL3 function... off. This is the only card I have running along side a second ISA sound card (a SB Pro 2.0), and I just assumed that this works, but I really should test that.

I have a couple of those OPTi boards and not hat this means much, but they came from systems built in '93 and '94. The 486SX 33 was a much cheaper alternative to the DX, and there was no real world dissadvantage for the average user. What a great Intel scam that was.

I haven't seen a machine earlier than a Pentium that detects a CD ROM at the bios level. The driver will still find it.
