I'm still using Dell 2001FP. It has IPS, pivot and it's cheap as dirt. Unfortunately it's 20" so hardy a compact one. You can look for a smaller ones of the same series though (there is also a 17" model that I know of).

Distrowatch to the rescue: https://distrowatch.com/search.php#advanced. Pick an architecture ex. i586, i486 and you'll have a list. From my personal experience I can recommend VectorLinux. Another thing is your clock speed, RAM and the weight of a Desktop Environment that won't be an overkill.

Set everything to "auto" and tell us what settings you get in "winipcfg"? I see no point in manually setting the address when he has a working dhcp server. You just confuse him.

Cisco Aironet 340/350 are 16bit PCMCIA cards with WPA support. You will need to upgrade firmware probably (I can confirm that 5.30.17 supports WPA).

I found out that the music of most games work if the CD is in the 1st optical drive, that also means first if it is a virtual optical drive. That way I got the music of Battlezone, TDR 2000, Jedi Knight and a bunch of others working, some still refuse to work though. :( Thank you! Now I can play …
