Re: 486 is booting monochrome unless monitor off

in DOS
Thanks for the reply. The monitor is an old crt Trinitron Multiscan 200sf (can't stand DOS gaming on an LCD!). Could I just break that pin off on the vga connector for the monitor so that it isn't grounded? Thanks, Joe

486 is booting monochrome unless monitor off

in DOS
One of my 486 pcs is booting into monochrome if I have the monitor it's connected to turned on. If I power it off and boot the pc, the computer boots up fine in vga mode. If I have the monitor on and boot up, most games except a select few are in monochrome and msd.exe reports it as monochrome. I've …

Re: Sound blaster DOS help

Went ahead and tried the awe64 and it worked, kind of. Most games seem to work fine (doom, warcraft, commander keen, god of thunder, and a few others) but there are issues with other games that worked fine with the sb16. Lemmings has no sound now, and King's Quest 5 has midi and sound, but for some …

Re: Sound blaster DOS help

AWE64 is SB16 + wavetable synthesis. If none of your games use it, then there's no reason to use it over the SB16. DOS doesn't recognise sound cards. That's why you will never see MSD reporting a sound card at any resource. And MSD says Detected No for LPT2 (and LPT 1 as you've disabled it), so …

Re: Sound blaster DOS help

Something odd just happened. I tried something unusual. I put in both sb cards at the same time, then the sb16 worked properly and had the correct settings. I turned off and removed the awe64 and turned it back on, and the sb16 is still working. Tried a few games and midi and sound work perfectly. …

Mau1wurf1977 wrote: Load BIOS defaults / clear CMOS? But yea this sounds like a really weird issue. Something is blocking resources. Any other cards in this machine? Haven't tried clearing CMOS yet. Only other card is an agp gfx card, s3 savage 2000 I think.

Re: Sound blaster DOS help

The games I remember struggling with in 7.1 were System Shock, some of the Ultima games (especially 7) and a bunch of obscure rpgs and roguelikes. As far as the video goes, I followed every step perfectly, still sets up interrupt and other settings incorrectly. Diagnose reports "DIAG8002 The BLASTER …

Re: Sound blaster DOS help

I'll have to see if I can find a floppy so I can copy my autoexec.bat and config.sys over, but I'll post them when I can. I'm trying to force them via set blaster. My dos version is 6.22. I'd use 7.1 if it weren't for several compatibility errors with older games. IRQ5 is taken by LPT2, but from …

Re: Sound blaster DOS help

Thanks for the replies. I tried all of those settings, including toggling pnp os. USB are off, only one parallel port shows up in bios and it's off too. Both cards seem as if they can function as pnp cards, and were both recognized by my pc before even loading the drivers. I've been using ctcm, but …

Sound blaster DOS help

Hi, I've been trying everything I can think of and reading every forum post on setting up isa sound blaster cards in DOS to no avail. I successfully set up a sb16 vibra on a 486sx dos pc with no issues with all the default blaster values. On my socket 7 p133, I am having no luck with a awe64 or sb16 …
