SOLVED! --- The problems went away after I went into Creative Audio Control Panel and switched the card from "Entertainment Mode" to "Audio Creation" mode... These Sound Blaster "Modes" are a new concept for me... Thanks for your help...

Didn't solve the problem. It's using the right MIDI device all right, but as a MIDI plays, it's definitely dropping random notes from every track, as if it couldn't keep up.
