Problems with 8-bit TVGA9000 based ISA video card

I built an 8-bit ISA Trident TVGA9000 based SVGA card ( http://www.malinov.com/Home/sergeys-projects/isa-supervga ). I had originally had some issues with unreadable text and posted about it in the General Hardware forum, but after checking over my solder joints the card seemed to be working fine …

I'll look into it but don't think resurfacing will work here. You can definitely see through the disc if you hold it up to the light so I think it's screwed.

Mechwarrior 2 scratched disc

My disc is bad like the title says. Has a pretty decent gouge: http://i.imgur.com/oDCK53K.png Can't complete an install in pure DOS and can't get a good BIN/CUE rip. Can anyone provide me with a good BIN/CUE image of this disc? I've got the Retail Netmech version, the "best" version of the game …

Re: Mechwarrior 1 issues

So just for the hell of it I downloaded the version of the game that's freely available on the Mechwarrior wiki. The only major differences I could see between the two versions is that the wiki version has no copy protection whatsoever. Of course the version from the wiki works fine and does NOT …

Mechwarrior 1 issues

I have a copy of Mechwarrior from the Powerhits Battletech compilation. Runs fine on my 386/DOS 6.22 PC. In DOSBox, however, the game has a weird crashing issue when going to the Crew screen; as soon as you select it from the menu the bottom of the screen just fills with garbage graphics and the …

Re: Mechwarrior 2 DOS performance

There were some 233MHz MMX Pentiums on eBay for $10 each so I picked one up. MW2 runs MUCH better. Definitely not 60fps, probably in the ballpark of ~30-40 fps. That's good enough for me. The game is definitely playable at 640x480 now. I have no desire to do any sort of 3D acceleration with this …

Re: Mechwarrior 2 DOS performance

I had a spare CF card lying around, so I installed Windows 95 on it and used the Virge patch on my copy of the game just to see how bad it was. It seemed to only work in 320x200, and the textures looked awful, even worse than software mode. Think I'll pass on that option. I'd settle for ~30fps in …

Re: Mechwarrior 2 DOS performance

Heh, pretty sure you remember it wrong. Probably. I actually DO remember getting through all of X-Wing on a 386SX-20. I went back and installed it on the same system, and holy hell do I find it unplayable now. :P there was a special VIRGE version of Mechwarrior 2 There is, but I'd need to install …

Mechwarrior 2 DOS performance

in DOS
I remember playing the MW2 demo on my old Packard Bell P100 in the 90s, and I remember it running fairly well at 640x480. I could be remembering completely wrong. Now I have a P100 system I built, and I found a copy of the full game. It feels like it's playing between 10-20fps at best, definitely …
