Re: Twisted Metal 2 crashing

A glide wrapper, but I don't know if theres one that will work for you on that setup. Thing is that game isn't really directx. It's direct3d 5 aka directx5. Most of that games features are probably Direct3d 3. Tried nGLide but it didn't fix the issue. It actually just messed up some of my other …

Re: Twisted Metal 2 crashing

The only thing tripping me up about that assessment (because it was mine initially as well) is that the game runs fine on my XP machine that has a slightly newer video controller but is runnign the exact same version of DIrectX9. SO that would indicate that DirectX is not the issue. It has to be my …

Re: Twisted Metal 2 crashing

The game's help file seems to mention this problem as a "you need to reinstall DirectX or update your video drivers" problem, so as I suspected it likely just doesn't understand the onboard video in my machine. I was hoping that somebody along the way had made some sort of source port type of thing …

Re: Twisted Metal 2 crashing

I am not sure if it works or not but my last opinions here would be: Reinstall the DirectX from the game CD (and uninstall, idk if its possible) or Copy ddraw.dll+d3dim.dll from the CD directx cab? package to the main executable directory. I'm not too keen to install an older copy of DirectX from …

Re: Twisted Metal 2 crashing

So as mentioned in my recent post about Quake/Hexen, there a few games (particularly older 3D games) that really, really dislike the onboard graphics of my Win98 Laptop (Dell Latitude D505 - Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Extreme Graphics 2 for Mobile). Most I've been able to fix with some help: Hexen II …

Re: Converting modern video files to older formats

For the most compatible, 1995-period-correct (and probably MPC compliant), no-codec-pack-needed command.... ffmpeg.exe -i %1 -r 15 -s 320x240 -ar 22050 -acodec adpcm_ms -vcodec cinepak %1.avi (be advised that ffmpeg's cinepak encoder is SUPER slow) This is great! These run perfectly without codecs …

Re: In-game AVIs - no video

For example, USB driver on my Windows 98 Pentium 2 machine makes it not shutdown anymore. So I quit trying to find a solution, even it may exist, and shutdown directly when it goes to that screen. Same here. I also stopped worrying about it. If I wait until the activity light stops moving on the " …

Re: Quake equivalent of Hammer of Thyrion

For ""The SDL2.DLL file is linked to missing export KERNEL32.DLL:AttachConsole."" Yeah, SDL2 is incompatible with 9x (unless you use kernelex). You'll need to use either the regular executable or the SLD1.2 one. For "The LIBFLAC-8.DLL is linked to missing export MSVCRT.DLL:_fstat64." It's likely …

Re: Quake equivalent of Hammer of Thyrion

Looks like there were some openGL switches, it's likely a cli switch may get it working. Unknown if there is a list of all switches, found these in the 0.90 notes o Support for opengl non-power-of-two-textures extension (disable with command line: "-notexturenpot".) o Support for OpenGL vertex …

Re: In-game AVIs - no video

I hate it when something like this goes unsolved. "Reinstall Windows" isn't the type of advice people like to hear... At least you fixed the problem. Well yeah I agree. I only reinstalled Windows because I had to, not to "fix" my problem. I'm just hoping that once I have everything back on the …

[Solved] Quake equivalent of Hammer of Thyrion

I was wondering if there is anything like Hexen II's Hammer of Thyrion fan patch for Quake. Neither Quake nor Hexen II like the internal graphics on my old Dell Latitude 505 (running Win98) and won't natively run in GL mode (they just crash to desktop upon launch). I was absolutely delighted to find …

Re: In-game AVIs - no video

Well I installed an unrelated game (Runaway) and it completely wrecked my Windows 98 installation. I went ahead and wiped and reinstalled. I installed FF7 and Nocturne first this time (both currently working correctly) and I'm checking them every so often after installing other games to see if the …

Re: In-game AVIs - no video

K-Lite Codec Pack 590 Mega works on Win Me with KernelEx, I believe. At least for me, it ran fine in a VM and could play all sorts of video files. Also useful is that utility in context menu, I think it was "Media Info " or something like that. Edit: Win98SE might also do, but I haven't really …
