Re: 1991 Dream Machine (386 DX/33)

Those old caviar drives are actually quite nice to listen to. As far as I'm concerned, the best HDDs that've come out of WD to this day :p Some are sought after now since they're less common and many want the authentic sound. Bearing hum (check) Crazy startup sound with the plunk (check) Hollow seek …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

Well I found this: https://inogeni.com/dvi-usb3-0/ It's suitable for VGA and DVI @ 640x480, but sadly states it requires USB 3.0; which could be resolved by a PCI-e USB 3.0 card but then that's more expensive than getting a C127.

Not all VGA capture devices respond well with older resolutions and I was wondering if someone has found one that is tried and tested to hit most of those. Phil mentioned he …

Re: Retro Rig Photo Thread

AOpen PSUs are usually pretty decent. Often made by FSP. Except the fact that FSP uses the lowest grade capacitors available. The 'F' in FSP stands for fire . Seasonic, Delta, LITE-ON, ASTEC (when it was still around), Artesyn etc are all good. Sometimes Delta and LITE-ON use lower grade capacitors …

Re: My faithful IBM 300PL Tower

Some trivia, The first PC 300 towers (Pentium 1) featured a front audio panel that was dropped in all later models (along with an ethernet indicator which looks like it was removed on the Pentium 3 iteration): http://www.recycledgoods.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/1000x/ …
