Re: DosBox folders continuously marked read only

No Microsoft OS ever used the readonly attribute on directories for what it was meant to be used. Back in the days of DOS, it wasn't used at all (DR-DOS et al used it though.) Starting with Win95 MS used it as a flag for explorer to look for a desktop.ini file inside the dir. Dosbox isn't using the …

Re: psVoodoo - New pixel shader based glide wrapper

Ok, great. I was thinking there might be bug fixes and optimisations too, but I guess probably not. Of course there are, but there can't be any major improvements, since the end-user-runtime hasn't changed since April 2004. Hey, you wouldn't know where I could find DirectX 8 SDK, do you? I don't …

Re: psVoodoo - New pixel shader based glide wrapper

Hm, I think, it's pretty easy: your code compiles and links with last years sdk, so you're not using any new functions, that are available in newer sdks only. I'd say, you're not losing too much unless you find that one particular cool feature, that's missing in the older ones;-) There's hardly any …

Re: psVoodoo - New pixel shader based glide wrapper

Hi Paul, to avoid the problem with those dlls you can get any directx 9 sdk before the february 2005 update. In earlier versions d3dx.lib was a static import library. At least october and december 2004 are still available on microsoft.com. And have a look at the Eula for the newer sdks: there had …

Re: Network games

with the ammount of servers that we have How many? I really like netware, for file and print services you won't find anything better. For rconsole there's an alternative: http://www.adremsoft.com/freecon/index.php

Re: Network games

No way, dosbox only supports the ipx-protocol, but nothing else in order to work with netware. AFAIK, there's no support for RIP/SAP, so you can't run netx or vlm inside dosbox. But why bother? Rconsole, slist, fconsole and the other novell tools run perfectly in a dos-window, even with xp. When …

Re: Linux IPX server

With all ipx-based network games that I know, you have to start a server on one machine, if you can't do that on your webserver, you'd have to setup the server as an ipx-router, which is not a trivial task (at least, when you're not in a netware-environment.) Like I said before, ipx-packets aren't …

Re: Linux IPX server

That's very vague - what exactly do you try to achieve? To make linux understand ipx you will only have to type modprobe ipx , but that wouldn't get you very far, because ipx-packets aren't routed through the internet. You can try to install dosbox on your server and start your game in server-mode …

Re: more fingers in the pie

b) some strangness in the way the textures are displayed : as one moves toward ( or away from ) a texture it can alternate between crisp and fuzzy . you can find spots where standing in from of the texture makes it look very definitely blurry , then by movin toward or away from it a bit it sharpens …

Re: brauche dringend hilfe

What's that? Babelfish.altavista.com? Anyway, proceed like el_pusher suggested. To make it more simple for you: Öffne dosbox.conf (ist im Ordner, in dem auch die dosbox.exe liegt) mit notepad.exe und ändere die Zeile, in der "EMS=..." steht, in "EMS=false".

Re: SuperCalc: "Cannot write to a read-only file..."

Perhaps there are different versions of WinXP, I am running the 64-bit version under VirtualPC on a Mac, and help specifically says EMS & XMS are not supported. Well, you didn't tell so in the beginning, but it seems to me to be a queer idea to run an emulator inside another emulator. Compiling …
