OK, so I decided to buy an hp xw8600 workstation motherboard because I already had a pair of lga771 quad core xeons and the board looked nice with 8 slots of ram, dual pci-e 16x, pci, pci-x... I used a cooler that was on a socket am2 dual core cpu. It didn't fit very well, capacitors didn't let it sit properly so I used a piece of aluminium between the cpu and cooler. Then it sat very well. I will post some pics of it soon.

It should be possible, I will try it tomorrow. Just have a big cooler and bump up the voltage to 3.3-3.5v if you try it 😀
