Oh yeah... good point. One side, the side with the subsequent connectors for the slave devices, is reserved for the drive, while the other is for the board (at least on my Aptiva it's like that).

That's the max speed. My APTIVA running PC-DOS has a 32x MITSUMI, but the driver operates it at 4x. I'm guessing windows (and the bootdisk) will use oakcdrom.sys, and that works with everything (but gobbles up an insane amount of conventional memory). I guess I don't want to be solely responsible …

That readme's language, and the fact that it mentions win98, makes me think you're reading the bootdisk's readme. Have you accessed the CD? If not, you need to the CD's setup program. I'm guessing MS called this file 'setup'. If your drive is D: then type D:\setup. The OEM disc may have the command …

When I put win32s on my windows 3.1 system, it complained about share.exe not being loaded in autoexec.bat. If it's pre-win95b, is it a big problem? Can't it just be patched with service pack 2? I mean... Is it such a big problem if the user just patches it? The patches seem rapidly available and are not abandonware. Does the user still get fat32?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it is a retail CD, isn't it automatically the original version? I thought service packed versions were only released to OEMs. jesolo's answer is better, but, I think if it doesn't say something like 'for a new pc only', it automatically is the original version.
