I was comparing apples to oranges. 'Software rendering' to me meant what you see in quake2 or unreal. Rendering done by the cpu. Title mostly asks the question. By software rendering,I mean that the processor/fpu does everything. Hardware means a graphics accelerator card. For some reason this feels better for Marvin than the Windows section

Sounds like people on this forum use SMARTDRV about 5 different ways. I didn't use /u, inefficient. The Windows 3.11 system I have contains 64mb of ram, and probably uses only about 16mb at most. I have found that SMARTDRV slows WAKE OF THE RAVAGER and the SIERRA games the on run on WINDOWS 386 EXTENDED. Examples include TORIN'S PASSAGE and PHANTASMAGORIA. Their manuals specifically state to turn off SMARTDRV. This is on a system with 64mb of ram -- maybe even that's not enough memory. When …

I'm guessing 'OK' means it loaded without any assistance. The S3 cards requires S3 VBE for quake, so that's probably the driver. Alrighty then, looks like the claim is accurate -- at least for quake. I like the sound of not needing drivers.
