If you have a port conflict, ESSCFG will tell you it can't find the ESS 688/1688/1888 card.

I think you are right. What you linked and what I read it seems more likely he went from composing ROTT on the RAP-10 to Duke on the RAP-10.

Is this due to the "Fixed drive" bit perhaps? Some Industrial CF cards are in fixed drive mode while the usual kind is in removable drive mode. Not all hardware like the removable mode.

Yesterday I tried an HP KU-204IN card (the card with only USB 2.0 internal headers) on an ECS P5GX-M with a Cyrix/National GX1. This unfortunately gives slowdown too. Tested in MS-DOS 6.22 with Duke Nukem 3D, DNRATE goes from ~90 to ~20 fps. The slowdown is noticable everywhere.

In the case of Doom, be sure to only connect the PC's MIDI out cable to the module's MIDI in. Do not connect the module's MIDI out to PC MIDI in. This is a known issue with Doom. Where can I find more info on this? I see some search hits here and there but no detailled information. It would kinda …

Did ES968 give some output? I had a card with this chip before (although with a 1688) and remember seeing some output about the ES968 when booting after installing the drivers.

Very interesting. I've compared the datasheets of the DACs and it looks like the AKM has a reference diagram using 1.13Vrms output while the ESS includes a 2Vrms Op-Amp driver. I'm a complete n00b in this department but does this mean the ESS has more power in the output if the datasheet setups were …

Manufacturers all used different kind of line output levels it seems. My ESS cards have the same output as my Gravis but the Aztech's, ALS's and Crystals behave a bit different. The ESS cards also easily handle a Yucatan FX (which has high bass, but isn't that loud otherwise) and a DB50XG (loud). …

You mean the Amp setting? It's already on max. but that doesn't make much difference. The X2GS has a lower volume output compared to a DB50XG or a Turtle Beach Rio. I want to tweak it to get it to that level if possible.

Is there a way (modding?) to boost the volume of the X2GS? My other sound devices (ESS, Turtle Beach, Gravis) have these louder type line outputs. Amp setting on max. isn't enough. It would make it a bit easier to mix and match the volume settings.

Waveblaster volume is indeed tied with the Synthesizer volume with the ALS card. I remember with my ALS card and a DOS install that the joystick port had to be disabled for something MIDI related to work. Do those cards output MIDI through the joystick port and Waveblaster connector simultaneously? …

I think the muffled audio problem is only occuring when a game uses Human Machine Interface drivers.
