Re: 4GB of RAM in a Slot 1 system?

Even if the VIA 694X chipset can take 1GB DIMMs, I doubt you would be able to use all of it even with PAE enabled. This reminds of AMD K7 which supported PAE but no chipset that actually supported 36-bit addressing was probably ever released (I think API and Hotrail was going to release some before …

Re: HP NetServer 4d/66LE

It is non-ECC FPM memory module. But strange, every chip is 2M*8bit, hence at the every side 8*8 =64bits! Regular modules used x4 chips. Probably some data pins just doesn't use in this module? Or you have 8 chips total, 4 chips a the one side and 4 chips at the another side? Anyhow, try to find ECC …

Re: HP NetServer 4d/66LE

I have old 486 server(Opti chipset). It works with single memory module, but needs ECC/Parity module. IIRC with regular modules, it only beeped. Please post the big photo of memories that you have used. We would discover, it is ECC/Parity or not.

Re: 4GB of RAM in a Slot 1 system?

So I saw the 8gb in a 939 system thread, and was wondering if anyone has tried 1gb ECC pc133 sticks in their 440BX/GX system. I have a GX system that's a 2GB currently but it would be crazy to get it up to 4. Even crazier if I could find the Tualatin adapters to put my dual 1.4s in... Yes, in the …

Re: Pentium II build in progress.

well I did try running an SL4BS 1Ghz/133 PIII and the machine did start at 100mhz FSB , once I upped the FSB to 133Mhz, I got a blank screen and the machine refused to boot, There is another 112Mhz setting which I could try, but we will see, as Id rather keep this is a PII machine of some kind. …

Re: Pentium II build in progress.

Excellent board! But I afraid that little fan on the Northbridge will interfere in the case if you'll install second CPU. I think, the fan is unnecessary. CPU - went with a Pentium II 400 as a fast PII, I did try just for curiosity, putting a PIII 1GHz/133Mhz CPU in there, but it gave me a blank …

Re: Benchmark Retro build.

Since your PSU works with older Athlon XP, probably no problems with it. However a chance that your problem is BIOS related. If old BIOS doesn't support "Coppermine". FSB 133MHz not only for "Coppermine", rare "Katmai" CPUs made for 133MHz FSB(533B and 600B models). Anyhow to be sure, try to get(at …

Re: Benchmark Retro build.

Have you more old CPU(Pentium3 "Katmai" or Pentium2 "Deschutes"/"Klamath")?. Maybe your board came with old bios that doesn't support "coppermine"? IIRC my old ASUS P2L97-S board with very old BIOS(0102) also gave me 1 long and 2 short beeps(VGA error) if unsupported CPU had been installed(this BIOS …

Re: Benchmark Retro build.

I've looked into my notes as promised. P3B-F rev 1.03 clocker ICS 9250CF-08 P3B-F rev 1.04 clocker W83195R-08 P3V4X rev 1.02 clocker ICS 9250BF-18 It is strange that your P3V4X doesn't start with P3 1000MHz(FSB100MHz). My P3V4X works great with slot1 Pentium3 coppermine SL4BS 1000MHz(but its …

Re: Benchmark Retro build.

Does rev 1.04 have the different clock chip like the P3V4X rev 1.03? I believe AUSU changed them and it wasnt popular. From what I've read. Do I really need or want two ISA? IIRC P3B-F board rev 1.04 has Winbond clock chip, 1.03 has ICS clocker. I might be wrong, but I don't remember any …

Re: Supermicro P6DLS BIOS modification

Supermicro seemed to like the AMI WinBIOS for some reason. My P6SBA has the same graphical setup screen. Definitely yes. Old Tyan board also have WinBIOS interface, but Tyan offered BIOS-es for same board(at least Tiger100 and Tiger2) as with graphical, as with text setup. Latest Tyan's BIOS for …

Supermicro P6DLS BIOS modification

Since I'm new in this forum, some words about me. I very love old HW, especially server(or server like class HW) and FreeBSD OS. I intensive used old HW(most part - P6 class). Also I have very old 80286 - 80386 computers with MSDOS has been installed on them. I don't use modern motherboard at all, …

Re: IBM PS/2 286

If is it possible I also would like to receive MSDOS 4.00 disks after you get them, please. I have 720K disks for Microsoft DOS 4.01 version, but I havn't normal 4.00 version. For case, If anyone interest 4.01 MSDOS images, I attached 4.01 images. MSDOS 4.xx has very quirky installation program. You …

Re: Asus P2B-DS Build

I'd use Katmai 600MHz matched pair CPU. I think it very nice CPU, but of course it is just my IMHO. Anyhow if you wish to use S370 coppermine CPUs, remember that both SLot1->S370 converter must be with dual support, else SMP will not work. If your coppermine chips with FSB133, AGP will be run at …

Re: Asus P2B-DS Build

If your board has HIP6004BCB and HIP6019BCB VRM chips, it support coppermine CPU. These chips support Vcore voltage (1.3V - 3.5V) Else, (probably HIP6004ACB and HIP6019CB), it doesn't support coppermine. These chips support Vcore voltage (1.8V-3.5V)
