Re: HardMPU, anyone?

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

I'm wondering if maybe my card is defective :( Unfortunately I doubt it's that simple. The way the interface works, the issue would most likely affect more than just the one game if that were the case. I'm going to do some more testing, maybe it is a speed issue and I just haven't found the right …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

I finally got a chance to test WC II on my machine at home. I don't seem to have the same issue as you, so I'm thinking an IRQ conflict might be likely. I'll spend some more time playing with different speeds and BIOS settings over the next few days to see if I can replicate the issue. I'm curious, …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

Actually come to think of it, you're right. Loading SoftMPU with HardMPU would match my point #1. I guess I was hoping for a version of the utility that could still leverage the HardMPU hardware in intelligent mode. The use case being games that don't work quite right and finding out if speed is …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

What you're saying makes sense but I guess I'm not entirely clear on the use case yet. I'm not saying you're wrong, sometimes I'm just a bit dense. 😎 What you're describing sounds just like using SoftMPU but with HardMPU as the physical interface.

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

If this sounds crazy, let me know. How about HardMPU as a PCMCIA card for laptops? The SCP-55 is hard to find these days and sometimes, the MIDI/Joystick port on the port replicators are a bit touchy at times. I'll have to look a little more into the standard. PCMCIA is "based on" ISA, but doesn't …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

I wonder. Would there be a way to combine the abilities of the HardMPU card with the ability of SoftMPU to pause the execution of the game with SysEx delayed messages. That is to say, a simple TSR that would not require a memory manager that would only poll or check a status on the HardMPU card, …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

I to am having this problem, and have *just* joined and cannot PM anyone... :( Last week, I sawed a HardMPU on ebay and missed it and now is gone and can I ask to have some kits placed there? or msg me on ebay, zarky_poo I would be interested in two kits. Thank you! <3 all Try at delorted.com eBay …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

I just didn't know that SysEx messages could carry THAT kind of information. Since the MT-32 is a unique beast -- especially in how its voices are generated/processed, I thought that perhaps there was also a non-standard way of delivering the necessary information to the MT-32 when uploading new …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

I do have one more question, though -- how exactly are new voices uploaded to the MT-32? Does that require intelligent mode, or are those simply MIDI messages that can be sent to the MT-32 via the basic UART mode? They are uploaded through SysEx messages, which absolutely does not require …

villeneuve wrote: But what about bugs like the hanging note bug etc.. That would affect the SC-55. That is a good point. HardMPU would be a good option if you have a sound card that have the hanging note bug (and you want to keep that sound card)

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

Enlighten me/us, since you've worked so much with this. What *exactly* is Intelligent Mode? Every time I try to google for this I get conflicting and incomplete information. I suppose that what you're saying makes sense since I've daisy-chained an SC-55 and SC-88 from an MT-32 and the MIDI spec …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

But the basic answer to your question is: The SC-55 does not support intelligent mode even if you have a true MPU-401 or equivalent feeding it, so there's no point in using it that way. Feed it any MIDI connection you feel like. Well, being pedantic here, but the MIDI module (SC-55 or MT-32) …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

So, I tried several different DB9-Brackets with the card - none fit so far. :depressed: Any hint where to find a bracket that fits? Not sure on what your best supplier would be, but I use these: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/534-9200-1 On the MIF-IPC-B: I found an ISA SCSI card cheap on ebay …
