'Fun' is relative in this case. It works or it does not. There is not much ingenuity involved unless you are willing to mod the VRM and the BIOS in case it does not work. But I understand the itch that needs scratching 😀

Your 'auto' voltage may be the key here. It is likely to work and if not the system will not boot. There is not a big chance on risk there. If it does not work your best option is to get yourself a 'Pro' version of that board. The one I had in the past ran Coppermines up to 1.100 Mhz 'out of the …

The 2.1 volt setting is documented for my Jetway board. I do not know if 4x open produces 2.0 volt. Here is an old thread dealing with the issue: Super Socket 7 board CPU voltage

That looks similar to a Jetway S7 board that I have here. If so the 4 jumpers add, when shorted, the following voltages to base value 2.0 volt: 1-2 = +0.1 v 3-4 = +0.2 v 5-6 = +0.4 v 7-8 = +0.8 v For example: [close][open][open][open] produces 2.1 volt.

Everything is possible but my first vote would be for the Genius mouse being incompatible with serial port. But there is little harm in buying/trying another adapter. Spare parts are almost a must in this hobby.

I do not know the exact symptoms of a mismatch. Do as konc advised - try the mouse + adapter on another system with serial port in order to eliminate possibilities. If that works either the PCChips motherboard's IO or the serial cable is faulty.

Are you sure that you use the 'right' ground position on the "DB9" female side of that adapter when you are measuring ?
