Re: List of 486 motherboards to work well with the Pentium Overdrive (POD) in write-back mode

Could you attached a screenshot of what CTCM, CTCM7, cachechk7, and CHKCPU16 show? I can upload pics from ctcm, cachechk7, and chkcpu16. I do not believe they will assist you in your search though. It appears on my mainboard the cpu operates in write-through mode. I apologize for the substandard …

Re: List of 486 motherboards to work well with the Pentium Overdrive (POD) in write-back mode

Interesting thread. I have a DEC system running a POD83 with 11mb of ram and 128kb of L2 cache. I had to buy the sram from Mouser a couple years ago because the mainboard didn't have any installed. I have a service manual from 1996 stating the L2 cache runs in wb mode but I can not confirm this. …

Re: uploading pics

Imgur is a decent service. You can link straight to the image after you upload. However I know nothing about privacy, there might not be any. I just put generic motherboard, cpu, etc, images there. I also use Imgur now that Photobucket has gone to a paid service. I have no expectation of privacy …

Re: Anyone on here into retro console gaming as well

^^^Some really nice collections indeed. Can't say I'm into it quit as much. Just got a NES, SNES, and a PS1. I enjoy retro console gaming though. Especially on my SNES. So many of the games on that platform hold a special place in my heart. Every 5 years or so I still feel the need to grab Super …

Re: Win95. yea or nay?

Diablo 1's minimum requirements are a Pentium 60 with 8MB of RAM so you're probably fine with the POD83 even with the cut-down 486 motherboard. You might turn off the CD music (just slide the music volume all the way down I think) for better performance, supposedly it was playable even on a real …

Re: Win95. yea or nay?

Do you have a photo of the motherboard? I thought I knew all the 486 boards with integrated PS/2. You noted logging int IRC - so it will be networked? In which case, I suggest 64 MB of RAM so you can run the vogons.org website more smoothly. Last I checked, IE 5.5 still loaded this website on my …

Re: Win95. yea or nay?

Boy, I'd say that sounds like a pretty good machine for Windows 95. Gaming I assume would be mostly DOS, in which case you might want to set up a typical CONFIG.SYS menu system to choose whether to boot into 95 or an optimal DOS config at bootup. Dos games yes but also I would like to run games …

Win95. yea or nay?

Based on these hardware specs would installing Win95 be a good idea? Would it be usable or would WFW3.11 be a better fit? POD83 w/128kb L2 cache 16mb ram S3trio64 2mb vram (integrated) SB16 ct1740 540mb hdd (controller is integrated) ps/2 mouse and keyboard ports (integrated) 3Com 3C509TP MB is …
