Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

The sharp shader (which I wrote) I think I love you. All the consoles and emulators like Analogue, MiSTer, Retroarch, have proper sharp-interpolation which is an absolute must for any upscaling of low resolution while retaining proper pixel aspect ratio and sharpness, and DOS games are no exception …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

Just popping in to say a huge thank you to Yesterplay80 for keeping up with the ECE branch for many years now. krcroft CD Audio patch NukedOPL PC Speaker These patches alone makes DOSBox ECE the difinitive "up to date" version of DOSBox compared to official SVN. I mean really, these patches should …

krcroft wrote on 2020-02-11, 15:29: OpenGL expectedly needs to blur the shaders' pixel edges to fit the rendering surface (image attached below). So can it get even better? It can't get any better/sharper. The 'Sharp' filter prescales then does a bare minimum amount of interpolation to maintain …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

Yes, it is glorious. The higher you native resolution of your display, the sharper the image will look. When the upscaling factor is big (say from 320x200 to 1080p) the sharper the image will look with less and less blur, and accurate pixel geometry. There is no modern emulator with low resolution …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

He's talking about "sharp bilinear": https://github.com/rsn8887/Sharp-Bilinear-Shaders Yep. This is exactly what a "big integer prescale then interpolation" does, and exactly what I am asking for. "sharp-bilinear-simple" This shader does an automatic optimum integer prescale (2x, 3x, 4x etc.), …
