You should have at least one for emergencies if your broadband goes down. Get an external model with serial connector.

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2100/180 from 1996 with roughly similar specs. No AGP though. Was AGP a thing in 1996? ETA: just noticed this thread is a necro. Did the OP ever complete the build?

Those combo drives are seen by the BIOS as separate drives. Putting another drive on the cable won't work.

That's right, I've had to bend pins out of the way to connect newer USB cables to some older hardware.

A workaround I understand is to use a LS120 IDE drive for 3.5" floppies in addition to two standard 5.25" drives on the floppy controller. Has anyone done this? How do the drive letter assignments work?

Yes I do this when dealing with multiple identical or similar computers. e.g. instead of calling them "Proliant1", "Proliant2" etc. it's PEGASUS, PERSEUS, PERKELE etc. Easier to remember and reduces confusion.

I have a Global WIN King Kong II which is similar but with a silver/metal front. Can't find anything about it on the internet though. It appears to have disappeared without trace. (The King Kong III is completely different.)

The official driver package is FA404ASELF.EXE I believe. This also contains drivers for the D353FUE USB floppy drive.

I recently spent a couple of days working on an Acer Aspire R11. Handy little thing. Small and light. But unpleasant to use because of its small keyboard. It's a trade off. Convenience of transport for convenience of use. Take your choice.

Errius: What was the long-lost IL-2 mod that you found? I'm curious because I like that sim as well. It was the HistorySFX (HSFX) mod, which was last updated 2 years ago and I couldn't get any of the download links to work when I tried to get it. I finally found it as a torrent.
