Re: AMD Radeon R7 250 Dell Windows xp question

There is a power saving feature called "Link State Power Management". Or what I tend to call PCI-Express Lane idling. Meaning that what you see in that GPU-Z field changes according to workload. I once had a combination of Motherboard and Geforce GT 710 that did not quite work well in this regard. …

Re: Why The Internet Archive Is In Danger Right Now...

in Milliways
Was thinking. Why didn't they (archive.org) separate the low risk and the high risk services? Put it in separate organizations, like three parts: The website page-crawling, the book related things and the user uploads. That last part will taint the website archive, and possibly make things go down …

Some time ago I tried 1oom-fork-v1.8.0. But I am having trouble configuring it to my previous preference, regarding starmap versus GUI scale. The starmap remains in the same resolution as the GUI, instead of a more zoomed out view of previous 1oom enhanced editions. I tried a bunch of settings …

Re: Dune II Refuses to Run on Win98SE

in DOS
I removed SBEINIT and EMM386 and it lets me run the game with OPL music and the closest I got was it saying "Dune" at the title screen (without the subtitle despite using the US version), and then no other digital sounds after that. I later found out that this was because I'd removed the SET …

Re: Dune II Refuses to Run on Win98SE

in DOS
I'm running a dual sound card setup with a SB Live! Value for Windows games and General MIDI (and certain DOS games like Jazz Jackrabbit and Epic Pinball) and a SB Vibra16 for DOS and FM Synth stuff. I've been setting all the sound device stuff for Dune II to Sound Blaster Pro (there's no SB16 …

Re: Dune II Refuses to Run on Win98SE

in DOS
I did some tests. With normal means I can run and play Dune2, with sound and music, from within Windows 98, with these conditions: - Set music to FM. Do not set it to Roland General Midi, for it will require even more base memory, and fail at startup. - As I wrote earlier I do not use EMM386 here. …

Re: Dune II Refuses to Run on Win98SE

in DOS
IIRC Windows 9x does not need Emm386 to emulate EMS memory. So you could even remove it from autoexec.bat. I had to habit to configure my systems to boot into real mode DOS, without EMM386. (EMM386 sets the processor in protected mode already) Then running Dune 2 from within Windows 98, to supply it …

Re: "Miles" Sound Updates

in DOS
But the issue is, that the new setsound.exe does not update the sound.cfg of the game. So when I start the game, it will still use whatever was saved there. I guess it will use the other new files now. But unfortunately it makes no difference in how it sounds. That is true for both setups. You got …

Re: Anyone use a Terratec Maestro?

16/95 is a completely different chipset, you need drivers for that specifically. Odd thing is that I did open the driver package, that I linked to in the other thread, and I noticed '924' in the file names. Which would match the Opti 82C 924 chip. Still no joy... Again, I don't have this card, so …
