Re: Design choices you will never forgive

I am a big fan of flat design, minimalism and simplicity. I find it more productive and more useful, more direct and intuitive than silly skeuomorphism. Simple skeuomorphism was fine with basic 3D shapes like in early versions of Windows. When the 2000s hit is when skeuomorphism went off the rails …

Re: Design choices you will never forgive

I USED to think the same thing about the widescreen monitors - just a scam to get people to but new hardware, but I dunno, maybe I have used to them - they DO give you more screen real estate As someone who uses a 21:9 monitor as my daily driver, it's like having dual 4:3 screens. Except unlike …

Re: Bought these games today

Game acquisitions from the past month. All the small box and loose CD games I found at local thrift stores. PC Small box games - Thrift Store finds.jpg PC CD Games - Thrift Store finds.jpg Loose CDs - PC Games.jpg Also got a couple big box games from Ebay. Deus Ex: GOTY was from an auction I won for …

Re: Design choices you will never forgive

This is a modern product, but I wish the 24" Asus ProArt monitor had proper support for VGA resolutions in DOS. If it did, it would have been an ideal retro LCD display. I also wish it had a way to disable the built-in smoothing / interpolation. In fact, I wish this of all LCD monitors.

Re: What game are you playing now?

Shadow Warrior (1997) This is the only game out of the "big three" Build engine games I never completed, though I did actually buy it back in the day (I still have my original CD!). From what I had played of it, I didn't like it as much as Duke 3D or Blood . So I decided to finally complete this …

Re: what soundcard no need Drivers to install in DOS just plug and work in DOS mode?

Strictly speaking no sound cards works without drivers. In the early days of sound cards, games would include their own drivers for specific sound cards (e.g. Adlib, Game Blaster, early Sound Blaster cards, etc.). However, by the time you get to the mid-to-late 90s (e.g. Windows 95/98) sound cards …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I have always preferred HL1 because Black Mesa is one of the coolest environments that I've experienced in a game. That trumps everything else that HL2 can offer for me. When I think about my favourite parts of Half Life, it's almost entirely the environment and story instead of gameplay. Just the …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Started to replay Half Life 2 recently. Could swear I've never played most of the game (although I have, I know it!), because most places and scenes didn't trigger any neural responses. So, either I'm just getting old or the game wasn't that remarkable back then. Considering many annoying …

Re: What version is this QUAKE???

I have two boxed copies of Quake, the original release and a later one with Windows 95 compatibility. The original boxed version has the "11-1111 source code" on the back of the CD case. The Win 95 version has a single large bar code in its place.
