Okay, I'm not entirely certain that Dr. Watson is functioning correctly, since the files are located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson and I don't get a cancel button that I can use to debug with. Here is what I could get.

There is a user.dmp file, but Windows won't let me copy or zip it. I did try all of the levels of sound acceleration.

Do you mean like a velour brush, or maybe a spray, or liquid? So do you think the problem with your disc was that it was dirty?

Congratulations! Was this a CD cleaner pad or perhaps a cleaning solution product? I've seen several products claiming to fix CD skipping, but I would guess not all of them actually work. While you have a working CD, you might want to try and make a backup copy or image.

Making an image of the disk does not mean taking a picture of it. While not necessarily legal or allowed by the game publisher, there are programs that allow making a copy of a CD or DVD on the hard disk - this is called a disk image. Yes, I think the SETUPDS.EXE is necessary, but only to configure or activate the card. I don't think that this is a driver that (more importantly) uses memory needed by games. Would an external MIDI device work in DOS, given that the sound card (the one with gameport adapter) is PCI? It should work if the PCI card has DOS drivers or some equivalent. Aureal Vortex2 have DOS drivers, as to many of the later Sound Blaster PCI cards and I'm sure other brands as well. The …

Yours could also be a lot better than the USB adapter on eBay for $12.50. I think I paid more like $60-80 for the one I got for my brother's computer. The Gameport MIDI adapter is much simpler though, and shouldn't require drivers or circuitry, so it is harder to mess that up.

Hmmm... The game I was testing with was Dungeon Master II. I'm not sure there will be a problem with all games, since it will depend on the density of the music. I'll have to think of a painless way to record game audio, and would have to re-assemble one of the systems with onboard YMF sound.
