The integrated ymf715 is already great for DOS and has authentic OPL3. Invest in a MIDI module if anything. I'd try bumping the CPU to something faster, 366 to 433 celeron due to bus limitation of 66 MHz

Retail ones came with a fan right on the heatsink. OEM ones usually had big heatsinks and pushed air through it with ducts or well placed fans. I'd be sure to have some airflow through it to keep it cool.
