To be fair the Intel GPUs do get talked about quite a bit in the context of how bad they are, but alas, you are correct that the study is not really representative of anything other than how much each card was talked about. You probably can't prove any correllation between discussion and ownership. …

3Com cards are active ones (with CPU, RAM; doing protocoll handling etc.) while most other cards are passive, meaning that the CPU must do most of the work. Active cards are better especially for slower PCs. At what processor speeds does the difference become negligible? Am I better off replacing …

Plastic brittling and deformation are things you can prevent or delay but not things you can really fix after the fact. Thankfully we are in the age of 3D printing so whatever it is that is giving you issues get it scanned and reprinted. 😎

Strangely enough the system has no DVD-ROM installed, just a very beat up CD-ROM. According to those specs it should have had a 2x DVD-ROM (no wonder it did not survive).
