Re: ATI cards for retro builds... any benefits?

cyclone3d wrote: Could you show me where to get these Win9x drivers for the X1950 ? Newest that I am pretty sure most everybody is aware of with Win9x support stop at the x850. You are correct and the X800 series is indeed the fastest AGP card for Win98SE, I hang my head in shame and walk away now …

Re: 9800 Pro Low clock speeds

candle_86 wrote: 20180507_222342.jpg Thats the card I got sent That card is not built on a Radeon 9800 PCB, not even a 9700 PCB. It is actually the worst Frankenstein PCB I've ever seen. Can you please lift the cooler and check the GPU for me?

Re: Matrox G400/G450 Quake III Performance

I ran some more benchmarks on the G400 with high textures in quake3. To see if the slowdown bug is caused by the OS or hardware. All the tests were done with the highest textures (r_picmip=0), 32bit colour, 32bit textures. I ran them all on the same P3 I did the other windows 98 tests on. P3@1GHz …

Re: 9800 Pro Low clock speeds

honestly its a shame I don't have a BGA rework station, my Quadro FX3000 is dead because i cracked a memory IC, but if i had one and a mask I could just transplant it's 2.2NS Ram onto the 9800, and swap the bios to a 9800 Pro with hynix instead of samsung ram Don't be so sure, the 9800 you got may …

Re: Pentium 1 - 60 MHZ - Graphics Card

...but who am I to judge, I bought a Dell Dimension XPS D333 with a Permedia 2 card just because it was something I used during my internship for I-DEAS work.. I was in love with the PC. When was that? My first I-DEAS workstation(?) in 1999 (or 2000?) was the old company server (Pentium Pro 200 on …

Re: ATI cards for retro builds... any benefits?

ATI Rage 128 and Radeon are great competitors against their contemporaries (TNT2 and GF256) and in my opinion very interesting choices for retro builds. Rage 128 has poor texture filtering, however. Radeon 8500/9100 is my favorite DX8 class GPU bar none, a card faster than the GF4 Ti 4200. However …

Re: Sound Blaster 16: From best to worst

I don't think the Vibra ringing warrants the red color, if the other side of the DMA bug coin is marked yellow. Maybe the worst offenders get annoying, but it's very subtle on mine. And what's this clipping issue? The one I know of is present with the CT2504 Vibra cards, but never heard it on the …

Re: Pentium 1 - 60 MHZ - Graphics Card

There's indeed a reason why I was dubious about the pentium 60 and millennium being a common combination, not least when the millennium was fresh. A cost-cut video option should be well more likely in that context. That said, for gaming and related tasks, the niche for my millennium is software …

Re: Pentium 1 - 60 MHZ - Graphics Card

Yes, that video will play at full framerate (I think it's either 50 or 60 fields per second) on a Pentium 133, perhaps even a slower machine. I don't think it's quite DVD resolution though. Sadly I haven't been able to find my original driver CD in ages. I think someone borrowed it and never …

Re: Pentium 1 - 60 MHZ - Graphics Card

Oh I do own and use a Mystique 220 4MB in my K6-2 SLI PC, I think it is the best period correct 2D card for <=1998 systems. I just LOVE that card to bits. It is super bad for games though, has no texturing. It works great alongside a Voodoo 2 or SLI config though. But it is not a great card for DOS, …
