ok update... just reloaded Win95 from SCRATCH, and this time its even worse. Now the only device that's listed is "Yamaha OPL3" under "other" tab. It's Direct X for sure. DX9 is too current for Windows 98. You want to download and install Direct X 7.0a. I use that on my Win98 build and everything runs like butta 😊

awesome guys, Thank you all for great info. I think I'll try the hair dryer method to start out with. Get them semi-hot and try to gently wiggle the fan's off. If that doesn't work, I will perhaps attempt the soldering iron method. I will report back when I get them removed! 😉
