Assuming multiple soundbanks cannot be addressed simultaeously within X16, the second best solution that I could envisage is an end-user soundbank manager that would allow the cut and paste of voices from various source soundbanks into a new custom soundbank - but I guess that is what the Dream SDK …

Are you sure? Yeah, indeed the X16 can have multiple soundbanks loaded into the NAND memory and you can switch between them. It's true. The right strategy remains to be defined. However, spending more (+10€ on GS version) to contribute to your efforts seems justified to me. The +10€ on the GS version would support not me but Serdashop, Dream and Roland. ;) Actually the GS version wouldn't be any more legitimate to use …

Imho, licensed Roland Dreamblaster X16GS and X2GS products are more legitimate than others to use soundfont compiled X2 or X16 with samples or soundfonts banks from retro gaming devices ROMs : ex. Ah, I see. Well, I suppose it's not possible to downsample the X16 one to fit into an X2/X3 right? Downsampling from 44khz to 22khz would half the size but it would still be about 120 MiB.. To fit X2 we would need to get it to half again. It does not have many splits we could remove and no layers …

@duboisea I will give it a try when i find time soon! I need to convert all the available banks anyways.. I wanted to optimize them but i don't know when i find time to do it so i should just convert them as they are maybe.. And i'll give a shot to rakarek's GUS bank too.
