Re: Why no Dual-OPL3 soundcards?

I think the OPL4 was already the perfect upgrade as a full OPL3, GM Wavetable rom bank, and up to 24 PCM channels with support for up to 4mb of sample memory. Problem was, sound card builders treated it like a low budget toy. OPL3 mode for FM and GM bank for MIDI. I don't think there was a single PC …

Re: First MIDI compatible sound card?

Not a "PC," but Yamaha sold their first MSX computers with the SFG-01 (YM2151 OPM) sound cartridges in 1983. These cartridges contain a standard MIDI interface, but the bios only supported connecting to a MIDI data recorder (they have a separate proprietary keyboard connector). In 1984 they replaced …

Re: 2 in 1 Midi Merge

For multiple midi inputs and outputs, you want a MIDI Patchbay. I use Eidirol UM550 myself, but they aren't cheap these days. You can often get older units on auction sites for cheap, but they will be full-rack size.

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

I read about this, but as it's missing OKIM6258 I'm not shure if it could be really usefull for X68K music recording Majority of X68000 games use the Oki, but there many great ones that are FM only. YM2151 has a lot of nice arcade stuff too. Regarding the YM2608, I don't know of any music on that …

Re: new soundcard

YM2149x6? Odd choice imo, if you want a crazy PSG composing device, AY8930 or even SAA1099 would be better choices imo. A card like this will be useless for DOS games. This thing is for very specific music production.

Re: Force MU-50 to XG

TG-300 is the SC-55 GS compatible mode. Most MU units will auto select XG mode for midis with true GM Reset messages. I have no experience with the MU50 though. Try adding a proper GM Reset sysex message to the start of your MIDI files.

Re: DreamBlaster X16

I like the look, now waiting for the sounds. Also, maybe a weird request, but I would love if X16 had its own waveblaster header to mount an additional module, then software to control which channels go to each device. Korg NS5R (NX5R) has this ability and its a lot of fun to play with.
