Re: Voodoo 5500 AGP repair help/advice

Try this https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=59870&start=20 He put the card in an alcohol bath after recapping it. Suppose you can try giving it a bath? What I would try first is what Doornkaat says though, see if it gets detected by the 3dfx flash utility. Can't you use onboard video and …

Re: 3DFX Voodoo Banshee on DOS can't work

Sound familiar, all I had to do was to put REM in front of device=c:\windows\emm386.exe iirc. The creative drivers for Windows 95/98 should work fine with 98SE. I've Always used those. Take a look at falconfly.de You can also try a game that doesn't need a CD and boot in DOS safe mode, that way you …

Re: Voodoo3 driver performance

Very interesting! What about adding some third party drivers like amigamerlin's? Yeah, I can do that. I don't really have any experience with the third party drivers, which ones do you think I should test? Maybe an amigamerlin vs 3dfx reference drivers comparison (both possible on 98 or 2k) with a …

Re: Slow DOS 3D game performance

The Matrox G400 isn't the most compatible card for DOS, but it is fast. Faster then the mentioned S3 cards. Card should not be the issue. You should try fastvid or mtrrlfbe: https://www.philscomputerlab.com/dos-graphics-boost.html I actually came across those two programs and tried them. I didn't …

Re: Slow DOS 3D game performance

Found it! Tried a different videocard (gf3), didn't work. Turning off 'Back buffer into video memory' fixed it, it's a game option which all Westwood games have up to red alert 2 I believe. Never expected it to work, my Windows 10 pc also needs that option turned off for red alert to fix fps issues. …

Re: Slow DOS 3D game performance

First: Matrox is not very good choice for DOS games. Remove it and try with S3 Trio64/Virge/3D or Riva 128/TNT/2, PCI or AGP - it doesn't matter. Second: I know some DOS games which require very fast machines. Maybe your game is one of them. Try it on any P2/P3 or K7 or top K6 machine. Third: you …

Slow DOS 3D game performance

Hi, I noticed yesterday while playing Lands of Lore 2 that it's running quite slow in DOS mode. Windows 95 version runs at least three times faster with no hiccups. It looks like a CPU limitation but I'm not sure. Saw the same with Carmageddon 1: very slow under DOS, fast under 98. Lands of Lore 2 …

Re: Microwave oven interferes with CRT?!

Yup same here. Only when I had the monitor with it's back to the wall where opposite the microwave was running. Funny thing: when my previous dog barked (giant dog, loud bark) in the room the monitor is in, the screen of the CRT shaked. Pretty crazy right? No idea how it's possible. My CRT tv …

Re: 90’s graphics cards

I think you'll be fine, just get a monitor (crt!) with 2 inputs and switch to whatever card you want to use. Most games allow you to select the card you want to use. So you'd use one card to boot your pc into Windows, that one is 'primary' in your BIOS and you select the other one whenever you want …
