Re: Vortex Sound Cards

To expand on what KCompRoom2000 said, if you're doing a period-correct build for 1997, the first Vortex card may be worth having. It was one of the first PCI sound cards, arriving way ahead of Creative to the interface. One of my favorite games, Jedi Knight (US release: October 1997), had an …

Re: Fog Table & 8-bit Paletted Textures

It would hard be to overstate the utility for retro gamers of a visual feature list for games, accompanied by a hardware list of visual capabilities for applicable APIs. Tests like: - a single 16 gray texel scaled up and modulated up, to expose filter precision - a basic room with colored mip …

Re: Fog Table & 8-bit Paletted Textures

Even the contemporary NVIDIA gear predating the GeForce 256 ... only supported table fog through emulation. Correct. The RIVA 128, RIVA128ZX, and the RIVA TNT used vertex fog to emulate table fog until the GeForce 256, which supported table fog in hardware. This Nvidia white paper will tell you …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

yes, run it as admin, then you get the apply button. How thoughtful of them. :dead: Thanks. After adjusting the shifts, vertical is perfectly aligned, but horizontal staunchly refuses to do what it's told. Whatever I set it at (e.g. -92, -5, 0, 7, 92, etc) the entire image shifts to the right …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

elianda, any tips on shifting the capture image on DVI2PCIe Duo? My capture area is shifted up and to the right . I see settings for adjusting the horizontal and vertical shift, but changing these does nothing in real time, and when I close the window, the settings don't appear to save: capfail.jpg

Re: Capturing Accurate Voodoo1 Screenshots

Here is a raw, uncompressed capture from a DVI2PCIe Duo. The image needs to be shifted down and to the left; I'm still playing with the settings. If this is accurate, it appears that the default gamma of Suprgrab is more accurate than I gave it credit for. Filename cap_0001.png File size 386.16 KiB …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

I'am actually quite happy with my Epiphan DVI2PCIe, captures basically everything from 15 kHz to 1920x1200 60 Hz. It does up to 85 Hz at 1280x1024 and even more at lower resolutions. We live in an era today where VGA capture cards can be had for 100-300 dollars 20 dollars. 1,000, 200, 20; that's …

Re: Capturing Accurate Voodoo1 Screenshots

Here is what Suprgrab gives me with the gamma set to 1.0 (The default value, 1.7, is way too bright in Jedi Knight): jkspr3.jpg You can save it and zoom in yourselves. It almost looks like they added CRT scanlines. In any case, yeah, I'll be staying away from software solutions to get accurate grabs …

Capturing Accurate Voodoo1 Screenshots

GRAB.EXE from Vogons Driver Library Playing Jedi Knight, ALT+TAB out, run GRAB.EXE exactly as instructed, .tga file is successfully saved, but the the image still suffers from heavy dithering: jk3.jpg jk3_zoom.jpg The GRAB.EXE shot is identical to a shot taken with Jedi Knight's built-in screenshot …
