Re: Fasttracker 2.10b for MS-DOS

Hello, it seems like dream. IF there will be a new software then why not the new hardware devices too? Look here we are also creating new soundcards. Is it difficult to get 2 cards at the same time to work (multitrack output!) ? In a work of double GUS? Or what about the new multitrack card? After I …

Re: The PC/DOS mini

in DOS
Why to limit for games only? It can be also used for tracker music, and in a more modern way it should be good if having digital I/O and MIDI uart which works with FT2 versions. So, the expansion possibilities are ISA bus? MIDI UART available?

Re: How many hours a day are you at the PC?

in Milliways
Way WAY too much if I'm totally honest. Sadly there is bugger all to do around here so its this or go stir crazy. Wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the budget cuts decimating everything (that and Brexit, but years of budget cuts are probably more to blame). I really do need another hobby of some …

Re: How many hours a day are you at the PC?

in Milliways
AND what you will do with that time when it is more than 12 hours? Perhaps it is just SITTING and it does not matter if behind a computer or not. I assume we count these 20 year old machines only? 3 hours, sometimes 16 (music then). If with computers at all then just a 1 hour more. After that need …

Re: Fixing a Roland SB-55 floppy MIDI player

Thanks for the advice. I do not own an oscilloscope but I can check the power on the lines. then just use a computer soundcard to probe if there is the ripple, by just decoupling the DC input at first with some capacitor. but the most important is that check that everything which should get the +5V …

Re: Yamaha XG with S/PDIF out ?

oh yeah, just THAT component was missing in that whole PCI cards DOS blues -- the motherboard chipsets! :( when looking that table (which was not found even by search engine as relevant information) then there was none of those which would have this combination to my existing chipset motherboards ( …

Re: Yamaha XG with S/PDIF out ?

PCI cards all need TSR and EMM386 in order to keep it Soundblaster compatible. That's not true. Yamaha YMF7x4 PCI, ESS Solo-1, Crystal 4630, Avance Logic ALS4000, Forté Media FM801, Trident 4DWave CMI 8738 can all do Sound Blaster emulation without any TSR loaded. Some of theese have a TSR for IRQ …

Re: Yamaha XG with S/PDIF out ?

This Yamaha XG is DOS compatible. Will MIDI support work in DOS ? OPL3 ? Looking for a NEW sound card that is DOS / MIDI compatible. So you can solder things together? If the ISA bus card is acceptable too then after if you have some patience then well, then perhaps soon there will be some modular …

Re: Can you buy replacement internal VGA cables?

Out of curiosity -- Which pin is not connected in that 15-pin VGA connector with 11-pin cable if you compare that cable with that 12-pin cable ? Anyway what about trying? While the PCB board headers are not direct match the cable is STILL usable after modification -- just you have to wire the pins …

Re: Fixing a Roland SB-55 floppy MIDI player

before you even heat up soldering iron, switch on oscilloscope and diagnose. Dont swap the capacitors or ICs blindly. 0. have you checked if the supply levels are normal levels and without any ripple in that +5V rail? 1. Check that the chips get 5V which must get that. ALso if there are perhaps some …
