Re: '98

First of all, very well done! Always a pleasure to see such comparisons. People did use to say that the Voodoo 2 in SLI needs a fast CPU, some tests seem bottlenecked even with that 450MHz PII. And for the i740, I can only say the same. Got one as a gift a few years back and it's genuinely …

Re: GPU Choice

I second the integrated GPU if you can get the board to run the memory at full speed and in dual channel with two 256MB modules instead. It would even work as a temporary solution in case you find a Geforce 3 or Geforce 4 Ti sometime later. The 7600GS would be overkill in my opinion and …

Re: Equivalent of a GeForce2 GTS?

It really depends on the type of Geforce 4 MX that's being benchmarked. There are TONS of varieties with many lower clocked or lower memory bus versions out there. A proper 128 bit MX440 with 400MHz memory should be faster than a Geforce 2 GTS, while an MX460 is a beast of a DX7 card. …

Re: Confused with AGP Speeds and Voltage

Well, in theory, if the card fits in the board, it should work. But then there are those weird cases (SS7 boards) when a 1X/2X slot simply can't use all AGP features and some cards have problems for example. A BX board should be happy with any card with a universal conenctor (has both keys) though. …

Re: Recommend me a graphics card for Netburst.

I use a 550Ti in my XP rig (Core2 Duo E8400) and I still find it to be a bit overkill. Anything newer can run on a regular modern rig anyway. For Netburst, the cheap nV options could be something in the 450,460,550,650,740 range, or there is always the option of going for something stronger if …

Re: ut2004 + kyro ii = death?

There's definitely a CPU bottleneck, but it also depends on the map you're playing. On max settings the AS-RobotFactory map could actually get my Athlon 64 FX-57 to its knees with around 35 FPS, but smaller maps could reach as much as 300.
