Re: Whats the most rare piece of hardware you own?

in Milliways
Not really anything exceptionally rare. - Amiga 1200 with Apollo 68030/50 mhz +68882 50mhz +wifi card - IBM 5151 - Vodoo 3 3000 PCI - Avaya ISAPC-00 - PCMCIA slot is quite useful on PCs without PCI. Grants USB stick-like feature (using PCMCIA to CF adapter combined with CF adapter via USB on modern …

Re: Can any PC with ISA slots work with a TTL (MDA/CGA/EGA) graphics card, or are there other BIOS/driver requirements?

I have just tested HGC clone (Winbond w86855af) with a S3 805 VLB on 5x86-160. First it looks okay ... https://i.postimg.cc/P5qH47w8/IMG-1050-1.jpg But after a short while the letters displayed on IBM 5151 start to change randomly and finally I get garbage on the screen. Note: that HGC card paired …

Re: IBM 5151 shaky/jittery image

Wait a second! The values in the schematic (250k or 50k) is not what you should set them to. That value indicates the model of the pot, i.e. the maximum value you can set it to. It makes no sense to set the pots out-of-circuit, because you don't know what you need to set them to. The idea is that …

Re: IBM 5151 shaky/jittery image

Thank you for the advice, I' ll remove the pots and try to set their value outside of the circuit then. I guess that trying to set these pots with the monitor turned on is not really a safe option (correct me if I am wrong). I do not have any tools for discharging crts, so now I am just waiting for …

Re: IBM 5151 shaky/jittery image

The good news: Horizontal sync is working fine on the monitor. The horizontal stuff is the scary stuff that works with moderately high voltages (hundreds of volts) and is coupled to the anode voltage generation (around 13000 volts). Your problem is that the vertical oscillator is not syncing …

IBM 5151 shaky/jittery image

Hello, I have a problem with my IBM 5151 - after turning on, it displays jittery image (out of sync - like, I guess). The monitor behaves this way since about 10 years ago, though there were some brief, random moments when it displayed image correctly. There is no difference in display quality when …

My multiboot swiss army knife 5x86@160

Hi, I would like to present you my new DOS machine. The aim of this build was to make strong multitool 486 with VLB cards and put as much nice stuff inside as it is possible  How does it look: Front: https://i.imgur.com/UjRXI2R.jpg Back (my, so many ports to tinker with...): https://i.imgur. …

More gameports in 486?

Is it possible to enable more gameports in 486 for connecting more pads/joysticks? Currently I am using gamepad connected to SB32' s gameport. I also noticed that there is gameport header on my PTI-255W IDE+multi I/0 card and I just thought "Why not connect the second joystick?" Does anyone have any …

Re: CPUidle...

This driver detects if CPU is doing nothing (i.e. waiting for input) and puts it into "idle" state, which makes CPU consume less energy and produce less heat. According to manual, it also does some tricks with CPU that makes system run a bit faster. I'm using version 2.51 on 5x86 working at 120mhz. …

Re: 2-4Mb VLB Video Card

My bad, I just refilled one bank and indeed, Sysspeed shows that these are 128kbit modules, so this is 2MB card. Now I notice this description of soldered jumper: "4MB DRAM CONFIG. OR 5430". Still, It' s a good news that it is possible to increase video memory this way. Now I'm thinking about buying …

Re: 2-4Mb VLB Video Card

I didn't realise the memory modules from PCI to VLB were interchangeable! I'm guessing that there may be various types of modules, and the right one should be used otherwise it may end up either not working or worst case, end up with memory corruptions etc? It looks like the modules don' t even …
