Flexibility and compatibility. Older versions may only allow boot from SCSI ID 0 or 1, don’t have autoterminate, individual settings per ID as opposed to global settings. You need a certain bios version for zip compatibility if I remember right. I think the 2940 needed 1.25+. If your rig is simpler …
